    OOC: This is going to be so much fun >:) I have big plans. And heads up, this is going to be a run like my last run with you was, mwah ha ha ha! Except probably not as hard because then you get upset and we don't really need to go into this so let's just get started.

    ~~~~~
    I cricked my neck as I waited at the front entrance to the Ruined Manor. Doing so was super bad for my bones, I knew, and arthritis was probably going to be a pain in later life. Still, the sound was super satisfying and it helped to drive off the headaches that I occasionally got. I knew that this was probably just a placebo effect but that didn't matter to me; as long as it continued to work I would continue to do it, unless a doctor explicitly told me not to. And I hadn't seen a doctor for years.
    The Ruined Manor was actually rather interesting. Us Rangers were spread so thin and kept so busy with all of our jobs (like escorting Trainer, tracking population cycles, defending the borders from poachers, and many more) that we simply couldn't spare the time to explore and map out the entirety of the island. The discovery of this building had happened quite by accident, and it actually was not an uncommon occurrence. Only about a couple of years ago we had discovered the Enigma Ruins, which we still did not understand. I was forever begging the higher-ups to let me tinker with it but they were afraid that I'd create a black hole or tweak Arceus' nuts or something. So, instead of playing around with machinery that I didn't understand, I was here, waiting for a Trainer to go on an Expedition.
    Actually, I wasn't too upset by this. The Trainer was supposed to be a newbie, someone fresh from the Kalos region. I hadn't been sent the file yet, but I didn't mind who it was. All I wanted was a nice, relaxing run. Well, that and to have a bit of a nose around the Manor. My Dusknoir was also looking forwards to this; she was the most quiet member of my team, which meant she was overlooked. However, she'd practically begged to come along when I said I was going to the manor. In fact, at this moment she was lurking around somewhere. I couldn't see her at the moment, but I knew she wasn't far, definitely within earshot. She was probably making friends with the local Ghosts. With any luck, she'd be able to attract something cool for my Trainer to see.
    OOC: I will be expecting Megastones. At least two :<
    TP#1
    The boat rocked as it broke through waves, tossing her body around with the vessel as Mizuki sat with lotus frame. The dark-garbed woman had her eyes closed in meditation, her limbs loose as she moved as one with her transport.
    The splashing of the waves and the chug of the ship let her draw away from the world, going someplace where it was quiet and calm. At the same time, she became more connected. She could hear the conversations of the workers and tell from which parts of the ship the creaking was coming. The breeze ruffled the hairs that stuck out of her pale gray braid and flapped her overcoat like a banner. Salt water air threaded through her system. The sun was nice.
    Then, a throaty call from the rail signaled her to open her eyes. Zu looked, seeing Kaeruichi, her Greninja partner, perched on the rail. She was using one webbed hand to clasp a rope and the other to point toward the approaching island.
    The ninja rose quietly, softly padding over to the ledge, her sea legs gained from her meditation, allowing herself to walk smooth and loose across the deck.
    “So this is it,” she murmured quietly, taking in her destination.
    The National Park had caught her interest while traveling. Originally from near Snowbelle in the Kalos region, there hadn’t been a diverse span of Pokemon species close to her home. Even traveling the country didn’t reveal even half of the claimed amount. That a place could hold every time without violence fascinated her. She wanted to know how it worked.
    As the ship docked, Zu fished out several coins from a pouch to hand to one of the workers, thanking them for the journey with steepled hands and a short bow that made her braid fall over her shoulder. The Greninja copied her movements. Zu watched them unload crates and drive around machinery for a few minutes before she moved on, absorbing as much detail as she could.
    Of the many locations on the island, she had opted to explore the new Ruined Manor the brochure sported. It seemed a good place for sneaking around, which was she and her Pokemon’s specialty. It was hard to untrain someone after years of practice.
    Instead of heading toward the main offices, she followed the paths toward Meteor Valley, where the new area was said to be located. Her soft-soled shoes made little noise as she walked the path, her body automatically adjusting for the terrain and making her as quiet as possible. Zu took in the sights, sounds, and smells of the area, brushing her gloveless fingers against the bark of trees as they went, getting a feel for the place. She liked it here.
    Kaeruichi did as well. She spent their trip bounding from tree to rock to tree, blending into shadows and turning her skin into slightly different pigments to match her surroundings. Her Protean ability allowed her to change her type upon using different moves, and the frog made liberal use of it.
    After treading down a steep gravel bank and threading through some trees, Mizuki found the place they were looking for. She stopped for several seconds to take the area in, seeing the run-down mansion tucked neatly into the forest. A man in tan and camouflage was waiting closer to the house, and judging from his uniform-like appearance, he must’ve been the Ranger.
    She wanted to call out, but years of conditioning kept her quiet. While she didn’t mind conversation, she wasn’t a naturally loud person. There were no loud people in her father’s house. The noise usually blocked her other senses.
    Still, she hoped she didn’t surprise him. It wasn’t particularly bright in this section, and her dark clothes tended to invite shadows to cover her. She tried to look as un-stealthy as possible as she neared, pulling down the scarf over her mouth and nose. Kaeruichi was staying mostly behind her, interested now in the new person.
    “Hello,” Zu greeted, stopping near a tree that was at least ten feet away. Distance with strangers was always good at first.
    I leaned back against the wall of the manor, growing slightly impatient with my Trainer. She was supposed to be here over ten minutes ago. This was of course complete and utter hypocrisy, as I frequently ran much later than this. Still, I felt I was well within my rights to huff and puff a little bit when she showed up.
    The thought occurred to me that I knew very little about my Trainer. I remembered that her name was Madara, or something similar, and she was from the distant Kalos region. With a practiced motion I pulled out my PDA and flipped it open. Sure enough, right there on the centre of my screen was the Trainer Form. I opened it and took a quick look down. The picture of the girl didn't allude to much, but I noticed that she was almost unusually tall, but not quite. Almost as if she was the perfect height for being unobtrusive. The form didn't reveal much else about her; she seemed to pack light judging by the items she was bringing, and her Pokemon were pretty varied. This particularly would be a nice change compared to all the type specialist and minimalist Park veterans that I usually got roped into escorting. However, I did notice that her name was Mizuki, which was good. I would have hated to look like an idiot by calling her the wrong name.
    I was concentrating hard enough on the form that I didn't notice the stranger's approach until she called out to me. I looked up, startled. The woman on the form was now standing on front of me, barely three metres away. Either I'd been more involved in the form than I thought, or she was some kind of ninja.
    Implying real ninjas still exist, I thought. There were the kiddy trainers that liked to affect cloaks and masks, and I guess I gave half-points to Koga, but he and the guys in his Gym were more like themed Trainers than the real deal.
    "Hey there, sorry I didn't notice you," I said quickly, trying to hide any momentary surprise on my part. "I was rather invested in this. Mizuki, I assume? Welcome to the National Park. Let's get started, shall we?"
    I opened the door and gestured for Mizuki to enter first. As she did so, I took a quick appraising glance over her. She definitely had a pleasing form, which with my practiced eye I could make out through her rather nondescript clothing. Her hair was arranged into a functional braid, which was an interesting style I had rarely seen before. However, I could also sense that while Mizuki might be calm and peaceful, she probably wouldn't put up with any of my tomfoolery. I resolved not to mess around with her. At least not too much.
    Following Mizuki in was a Pokemon that had escaped my notice until now. It was a Greninja, a Pokemon that had recently risen to super-stardom in the professional battling leagues. It had great utility and a wide movepool. The Pokemon was eyeing me openly but was careful to always stay a few paces away. I nodded to it respectfully; the Greninja handled itself like a warrior.
    The first room was a large open high-ceilinged one, which was directly connected to along corridor that had a banister staircase that rose up in a gentle curve. There was a damp patch at the base of the stairs, which was curious. Directly opposite from us, however, was a dining room that was in a state of disrepair. Dust coated the furniture and the wallpaper was peeling in places. A giant chandelier hung over the table, and it was swaying gently. Sitting on top of the table, swiping up at the chandelier, was a small purple Pokemon with huge, gem-like eyes. It was quite clearly trying to get at the shiny baubles on the chandelier but for some reason appeared unprepared to jump up onto it.
    "Well, it appears your first Encounter is with a Sableye," I said to Mizuki. "If you're interested in trying to capture it, just shout out. Most of the time, Park Pokemon are usually quite happy to battle Trainers. Life on the island is usually pretty sleepy, and I'm sure most Pokemon here dream of the adventure that only travelling with a Trainer can bring."
    Yay word vomit.
    TP#2
    The man was focused on reading something on a device, which had probably distracted him. He hid it well, though Mizuki still caught the tensing of his muscles as he turned to answer her.
    “Hey there, sorry I didn’t notice you,” he said. “I was rather invested in this. Mikuzi, I assume? Welcome to the National Park. Let’s get started, shall we?”
    The woman smiled and nodded her head for the welcome. “Friendly acquaintances sometimes call me Zu, if that is easier. Old fashioned,” she explained with a half shrug, passing through the doorway he gestured to. Old fashioned was certainly one way to describe her father. “And you are?” she asked as he followed.
    The first room was large—as she would expect for an old-time mansion. It was meant to impress, and she supposed in its day it did just that. The ceiling was high above, coated in shadows and dust. Furniture shared the same status, and it was easy to see places where the walls and floors were chipped. There were even water spots. The place was in pretty bad shape. She wondered how long it had gone unnoticed.
    Still, she couldn’t say it wasn’t unpleasant. The entire place would be familiar settings, as her training had often tucked her into dark corners and isolated places. Some of the haunts in her travels had been in worse shape than this, though she couldn’t deny there was a sense of loneliness in the halls.
    A staircase wound into the dark on one side, but it was the dining room that drew her senses first as her ears picked up a sound. Another layer of dust cloaked the area, but she easily made out a table in the muck. Above sat a chandelier that looked even older than the house because of the elements.
    A creature on the table made a swipe for the ancient decoration. Zu recognized it right away—a Sableye. It was one of the ghosts that had always stuck out for her. Its imp-like shape and shining gem eyes always looked like the demons wrapped up in her family scrolls—the ones her mother used to read from when her brother was young. They scared him once, the last time she had been there. Zu had stopped believing in demons when her father started up a training regimen for her years before.
    “Well, it appears your first encounter is with a Sableye,” the Ranger said. “If you’re interested in trying to capture it, just shout out. Most of the time, Park Pokemon are usually quite happy to battle Trainers. Life on the island is usually pretty sleep, and I’m sure most Pokemon here dream of the adventure that only traveling with a Trainer can bring.”
    Mizuki wasn’t quite sure about that, since foraging for food and weathering the elements got old. As did the feeling of knowing there wasn’t really a home to go back to—not one that would be welcoming, at least. Still, she knew was stagnicity was like as well, and hardship was easier when it was shared.
    The woman nodded, her body already reacting to the coming battle. Her weight shifted to the balls of her feet, and without even thinking, she found a feathered dart between her fingers. Brow furrowing, she inspected the object. It was just a shell of the darts used in blow guns, so it wasn’t dangerous, but she didn’t remember digging it out of her vest.
    She clenched her fingers around it tightly for a moment before tucking it away underneath her cloak. They weren’t at war anymore, but battle still sang in her veins, stuck there due to years of her father’s instruction. Sometimes it still surprised her.
    “Kaeruichi,” she said softly, calling forth the frog Pokemon while her eyes swept across the room once more, a plan forming in her mind.
    The Greninja leapt forward, her tongue scarf flicking idly. She could see the Pokemon’s muscles quivering slightly. Kaeruichi had been born to fight too.
    Mizuki gestured high with an arm, sending her cloak flapping as she swung it straight down toward the floor, communicating with the Water-type silently. Then, she held one hand flat and gestured underneath the palm with the other, moving her head in the direction of the dining room so her Pokemon would get the idea.
    “Use the darkness,” she added, stepping back to give the frog some room.
    While she didn’t mind discussion, in battle, there was usually no place for it. Pokemon battles were different than the kind her father had prepped her for, but habit was something she couldn’t undo. Unfortunately, it was what she had to pass down to her partners too.
    When sneaking around, silence and surprise was a ninja’s friend. One had to move quickly and think even quicker. She was trying to incorporate more words into her routines, especially if she continued to travel the public track, but this is how her Pokemon had learned.
    In the field, word communication wasn’t always possible anyway. With her scarf over her face, it was nearly impossible to be clear, so they relied on gestures mostly. This was not the same as being out in the wild, but her muscles automatically responded as normal.
    Kaeruichi understood what she meant. While her instinct told her not to betray their plans, she didn’t want to totally blindside the wild Pokemon either. Honor demanded that she got its attention first, and since the Greninja was fighting and not her, Kaeruichi would handle it.
    The high gesture referred to the frog’s Mat Block, a technique they mostly used to engage in a fight. The outside world was a lot different than the dojo, and there was no mat to bow to. In this, they continued that tradition as best they could.
    A thick mat would shoot up in front of the frog with a whoosh. It was a flashy gesture, meant to get attention. Hopefully that would advertise their intent easily enough. However, once that was over, the fight was on.
    Using the mat as a distraction, Kaeruichi would travel the darkness with her Shadow Sneak, aiming for the table the Sableye was standing on. Mizuki did not expect the frog to stay invisible for long, however, since ghosts were tricky warriors as well. That was why she must be fast.
    When she gained a little ground, the ghost would be easier to assault. Kaeruichi loved to use her environment because it made her harder to predict. It also matched up with their traditional training in the dark forests around her old home. The frog’s quick movements would be followed up with a Night Slash, using the shadows of the room to help conceal her.
    The Greninja’s ability, Protean, slightly shifted her skin’s pigment, aiding her natural camouflage. It wasn’t foolproof, of course, but if it bought her a few seconds, it was worth it. It had taken a long time to prefect, but it had come in handy multiple times.
    “Ghosts are tricksters,” she cautioned at the last minute, as Kaeruichi took up her stance.
    The frog nodded solemnly and clasped her hands together as she concentrated, her inner energy levels rising in order to perform her technique. They had fought their share of tricksters.
    OOC: You are just dead-set on minimising my battle earnings aren't you >.< Sableye gender?
    ~~~~~

    Mizuki nodded somewhat distractedly, and I noticed that she was playing with something that was in her hand. I tried to crane my neck without being too obvious to get a look at what it was, but Mizuki hid it somewhere in her clothes before I could. Not for the first time, this woman struck me as strange, in a decidedly deadly kind of way. She called out for her Greninja, which placed itself fluidly in-between the Wild Pokemon and its Trainer. Mizuki then made some quick, flowing arm movements. A newbie Trainer might be confused by this, but as an Elite I'd seen many Trainers with countless different systems for commanding Pokemon attacks nonverbally. They were usually mental communication using a Psychic-type, with hand gestures a close second. Facial expressions were much rarer. One time, I had been escorting a Trainer who I swore commanded his Pokemon using the smell of his (continual) farting.

    Mizuki ended her movements with the cryptic statement, "Use the darkness." She stepped backwards and I watched, intrigued, as a screen of ruddy-brown energy materialised underneath and in front of the Greninja. The Greninja pushed the mat up into the air with a flashy, eye-grabbing motion that involved the flailing of arms and legs. This of course grabbed the Sableye's attention; its peripheral vision caught the movement and it turned to inspect the intruder. However, it was out of luck; it caught one glimpse of the Water-type before it sunk into the darkness created by the travelling energy mat.

    Unfortunately for Mizuki and Kaeruichi, being a Ghost-type, the Sableye had much more experience fighting using shadows, and with this keen sense it could actually tell where the Greninja was. Nothing appeared to happen for a couple of seconds, and the air in the room was still. Suddenly, the large Pokemon burst seemingly out of the ground, leaping up to where the Sableye was on the table. The Sableye was faster, though; white motes of energy swirled around it and Kaeruichi's left fist was met by a small glowing barrier of unassailable power. Kaeruichi grunted unhappily, but continued her attack. She formed her right hand into a spade and whipped it around the Protect barrier, slashing at the Sableye's head. This move definitely made contact, as the Sableye was knocked to its side. Kaeruichi leapt back onto the ground to get into a defensive posture, but the Sableye was already moving. It quickly recovered and threw itself at the frog. The Ghost-type curled its claws into fists and threw a punch right into Kaeruichi's stomach. Since the frog was a warrior, it didn't flinch, and the strike didn't look that powerful anyway. The Sableye backflipped away from the frog and retreated underneath the table, hiding behind a leg and peering out angrily at its opponent.

    Even though Kareuichi's initial attack had been blocked, it was clear who the winner was in that exchange. The Greninja looked untouched, and although the Sableye still looked mostly okay, there was definitely a bruise on its side where Kaeruichi had struck. The problem now was how Mizuki intended to get at the Wild Pokemon without smashing up the table it was hiding underneath.

    I’ll probably battle more than three things tho! Let’s go female.

    TP#3

    Mizuki’s eyes trailed the battle as Kaeruichi moved. She hadn’t exactly expected for the Greninja to take the Sableye by surprise, since tricksters had to be very aware of their surroundings to be successful. The technique did let the frog cover the distance to the table, however .

    She had fared just fine in the exchange as well, despite taking a hit. The ninja Pokemon hadn’t flinched or anything, simply took the blow and followed through with her own plan. That was something that had to be practiced. Like her Trainer, Kaeruichi was built to dodge hits, not tank them. It had taken Zu a long time to stop flinching while her father struck in practice matches.

    The ghost had scrambled underneath the table after, which meant they would need to draw her out. Thankfully, Zu thought she had something that would work.

    Kaeruichi looked to her for instruction, and the ninja tried not to disappoint. “Bubble,” she called, the first and last of her verbal commands this round.

    The frog waited for more, never losing that eye contact. The Bubble attack, while not overly powerful or impressive, would provide ample cover. With a smooth wave of her hand, Zu made a motion that the Greninja would understand—the Bubble should fill a portion of the room. It wasn’t particularly light in here, and the only semi-transparent spheres would distort sight even more.

    To provide additional help with that, Zu made another gesture. She flicked a closed fist out, and then with one shake, spread her fingers out: the signal for Double Team. Kaeruichi could be just as tricky as any ghost. In her father’s house, sometimes they had to be. It wasn’t uncommon for traps to be set within their own walls outside of practice time. Every moment was practice.

    The clones required minimal energy to create, but that came at a cost. They wouldn’t help the frog much as far as damage output went, since most of what they did was illusion. They could, however, provide more bubbles and run around the room, hopefully drawing out the ghost from the table to see what was going on. Now that they had her attention, it was unlikely that she would just run away. The Sableye seemed somewhat curious, so hopefully she’d investigate, especially if she saw multiple frogs running around.

    Kaeruichi nodded and moved her hands together, getting ready to concentrate to start her techniques. However, Zu held up a finger for her to wait, pausing as the girl took another look around. Her eyes were drawn once again to the chandelier hanging above the table. The ghost had been pawing at it, likely at one of the shiny pieces. They could maybe use that.

    Zu directed her line of sight above the frog until her Pokemon looked up to see the decoration. Then, the girl clasped a hand and brought it to her chest, like she was keeping something safe. She wanted Kaeruichi to get that shiny piece and hold onto it.

    The Pokemon would hopefully keep it hidden in a fist or tucked into her tongue scarf. Zu trusted her partner to be discreet, like their trade. It wouldn’t be good to send the ghost into a rage by playing keep away.

    The Trainer flicked her fingers down like she was pressing a button quickly and then nodded, ending the instruction. To get up to the chandelier, Kaeruichi could use her Bounce technique. On top of that, the decoration provided a nice perch to wait out the ghost.

    There was a chance that the Sableye would choose to come through the table, but as she demonstrated earlier, she had had trouble reaching up to the bauble that Kaeruichi was going to borrow. Hopefully that height would be enough. From there, the frog could wait to pounce on the ghost from above. It should be high enough to see over a lot of the bubbles, and the Pokemon’s stealth training would let more than her eyes help her land on her target. In training at home, they were often blindfolded.

    Kaeruichi was thin enough that she shouldn’t provide too much strain on the light source, but there was always the chance that the support was bad. If that happened, the Greninja would leap off. Unsteady perches were no good.

    If things went right, the battle hopefully wouldn’t be too much longer. Zu had a sneaking suspicion about the Sableye and was interested to see if she was right.

    To her credit, Mizuki was quick to react. "Bubble," she called out. Her hands started moving again, flicking and pointing and becoming fists, almost too quick to see. I was sure that Kaeruichi didn't miss any signals, though. The Greninja immediately started blowing bubbles out from its mouth; I was amused to watch how the bubbles had to force their way out around the Pokemon's massive tongue. The orbs floated throughout the room, covering the area instead of heading straight for the Sableye. Personally, I thought that the Bubble attack would have had enough strength to force the Ghost-type out from underneath the table, but Mizuki appeared to think much less directly than I did.

    As the bubbles continued to pour out into the room, the Greninja began to flicker in the poor light. Three clones materialised and spread out around the room, moving to the cardinal points around the table. They were all emitting bubbles, which were now causing the dank room to look like a Christmas wonderland. The Sableye was watching this all through narrowed eyes, trying its best to figure out Mizuki's gameplan, but even it was confused when Kaeruichi made a massive jump into the air. The Greninja landed on the chandelier and plucked off the glass bauble that the Wild Pokemon had been trying to reach before safely tucking it away inside her tongue near the tip. She then turned around, preparing to leap.

    The Sableye was at a loss, trying to puzzle out Kaeruichi's plan and location. When it heard the tinkling sounds of the chandelier, however, it stood bolt upright and hissed angrily. Instead of phasing through the table, however, it crawled to the table's edge and peered up. Despite this being a clever and sneaky move, Kaeruichi saw it coming. The frog pounced, grabbing at the Wild Pokemon and holding it in front of her. The Sableye squealed as it smashed into the ground, and started wailing on the Greninja's hands with fists that were cloaked in electricity. The small sparks were quite obviously causing Kaeruichi no small amount of discomfort, so the Pokemon reflexively loosened its grip. This allowed the Sableye to just barely slip out of Kaeruichi's grip. It bolted for the table, but clipped one of the Bubbles. The water orb detonated like a grenade, sending the Ghost-type flying backwards. It landed heavily on its back and got to its feet slowly, hissing as it did so.

    It was quite clear from the Sableye's low stature and thinned eyes that it was now quite tired from battling. I doubted that it had the energy to try a shadow attack, but it was stuck out in the open, surrounded by the landmine bubbles. The Pokemon looked around unhappily before putting its hands together, as if in prayer. Just like Kaeruichi had done, the Sableye split itself into four clones, which immediately began scrambling all over each other, obscuring the sight of the real one. They all growled and watched the Greninja carefully, waiting for a chance to get back to safety. This defensive move was clever, but there was one major weakness; if Mizuki could figure out which Sableye was the real one, it was in the perfect position for a capture attempt. And I could tell by looking into each of the Sableye's replicated eyes that it knew it. There was a small amount of begrudging respect there, but also fire, and hunger to prove that it could hold its own against these intruders and thieves.

    Short post is short.

    Mizuki watched the ghost employ the same tactic that Kaeruichi had—splitting herself into multiple copies. They scattered, preventing fast detection of which one was real and which was fake. Fortunately, they had the proverbial ace up their sleeves—or in this case, the Greninja’s scarf.

    As she had suspected, the Sableye had gotten upset when Kaeruichi snatched the shiny object up on the chandelier. This species was known for collecting gems, and that thought had come to her that perhaps this was something the ghost wanted in her own hoard. While she frowned upon their labels most of the time, particularly the thief one, she had to admit that it was what they were good at.

    The girl snuck her hand under her cloak to reach a vest pocket, unzipping it and fetching a Park Ball without looking. Information gathering was their specialty, and sometimes that came with a price. They would make a trade.

    “Kaeruichi,” Zu called, catching the frog’s attention who had been watching the copies with wary eyes.

    She bent down and threw the capture device underhand, rolling it along the floor until the Greninja caught it with a webbed hand. Then, Zu nodded. “Offer up them both,” she said. “Return the jewel in exchange for becoming captured. We don’t need to fight any more.”

    The frog took out the jewel she had been hiding in her tongue, holding each object in each hand. Because the Sableye had been after it, it was probably going to catch the ghost’s intention. The copies could come after it too, of course, but they weren’t real manifestations, and neither touching the jewel nor the Park Ball would spark any action. Only the real one would activate.

    That was how they were going to determine which Sableye was the real one. Zu wasn’t a fan of violence in the first place, but she did understand the need to establish one’s power and rank in the world, which happened often enough in the surviving clans. Even at her home, this was a constant struggle. Those that were strong were respected, and that was sometimes the only way to get something done.

    She hoped that their quick struggle hadn’t negatively impacted the ghost. It was why she kept their strategies light and calculated instead of showing off raw strength. Ghosts and ninjas weren’t too different from another when working along the trickster vein. Zu hoped that the Sableye could see a possible kinship with them in the future.

    That and she knew what it was like to be alone. Ghosts were sometimes avoided due to their tricky natures, the sadness that surrounded them, or people’s fear. Even if she resembled an Imp, Zu could admit, at least to herself, that she felt bad about dismissing it as others might’ve. As others had dismissed her.

    Of course, if they needed to prove their might more, they would do so. Zu just wanted to avoid more fighting if she could. There was a time and place for it, but it wasn’t needed anymore.

    ~~~~~
    Apparently Mizuki had been thinking along the same lines as me. She reached into her vest and pulled out a Park Ball, no doubt to attempt the capture with. However, she did something that surprised me.
    “Kaeruichi, offer up them both,” she called out, tossing the ball towards the frog. It clattered on impact with the floor and rolled the rest of the way to the Greninja. “Return the jewel in exchange for becoming captured. We don’t need to fight any more.”
    The Greninja picked up the Park Ball in one hand and pulled the bauble out of her tongue with the other. She held them both up towards the Sableye, making the offer clear. The Wild Pokemon and all of its clones' eyes narrowed, and I held my breath, waiting for the result. Finally, the Sableye all let out a sigh. Three of the Sableye (the clones) disappeared with a popping sound and a brief coil of smoke. The Sableye walked warily up to Kaeruichi and held its hand out towards the ball. It paused, and used one claw to gesture at the bauble and then to Mizuki. It hissed, to make its point very clear, and then placed its other claw onto the ball. The Ghost-type disappeared in a white flash, and surprisingly, the Park Ball didn't even shake.
    "That was very well done," I said as I walked over to Kaeruichi and motioned for the ball. The Pokemon handed it to me and I tucked the capture device away safely inside my pack. "I think I forgot to introduce myself, by the way. My name is Chainy."
    I extended my two longer fingers and waved them away from my forehead in a casual greeting. Then, I walked over to the table to investigate it. There shouldn't have been a reason why the Sableye couldn't have jumped up onto the chandelier like Kaeruichi had. There had to be some reason why it didn't. As I got closer, I caught a little bit of movement up at the very top of the chandelier's chain, where it connected to the ceiling. I squinted my eyes and I just barely managed to catch a glimpse of a yellow mask and two angry, red eyes.
    "Well, that explains why the Sableye was having trouble getting the bauble," I remarked. "It looks like this Yamask has taken it upon itself to guard this chandelier. Do you want to try capturing it?"
    The Sableye sighed as Kaeruichi offered up the trade. It was more an ultimatum than a choice really, but at least it wouldn’t end in violence. The clones disappeared and then the ghost approached the Greninja. It took one look at the jewel and then back at Mizuki, clearly making her point with a pointed sharp claw.
    Zu just smiled at her and nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep it safe for you,” she told her.
    Then, the Sableye touched the ball and was sucked inside easily. “That was very well done,” the Ranger said, taking the Park Ball from Kaeruichi. “I think I forgot to introduce myself, by the way. My name is Chainy.”
    Zu nodded to him politely and accepted the jewel that Kaeruichi brought over. If it was the Sableye’s, he wouldn’t mind them taking it, right? She tucked it into one of her vest pockets, unseen under her cloak.
    The Ranger walked over to the table, inspecting the chandelier closely. After a moment, he stepped back and said, “Well, that explains why the Sableye was having trouble getting the bauble. It looks like this Yamask has taken it upon itself to guard this chandelier. Do you want to try capturing it?”
    Kaeruichi didn’t look surprised, so she must’ve sensed something there. Thankfully it hadn’t attacked her while she was dealing with the Sableye. Zu inspected the frog, and although she didn’t look too ruffled from the fight, it was unwise to engage again so quickly. One of her other Pokemon could fight, but Kaeruichi needed a cool down phase before she returned to a Pokeball. It was hard to tell how injured she was because they had trained to hide it. It wasn’t wise to display weakness in her father’s house.
    “No, thank you,” Zu answered. “I think we will pass on another fight.” The ninja looked upward at the top of the chandelier, seeing the glowing of red eyes. “Sorry, friend,” she told the ghost. “There is something you can use if it is upset, yes?” she asked. “I recall reading about some sort of doll. I’d like to use whatever method that is if necessary. I can pay,” she added, a bag of loose coins appearing in her partially-gloved hands.
