    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy clacked the papers against the hard surface of her desk to straighten them out. Then she pushed back with her feet, sending her rolling chair sailing backward. She turned as she went, stopping in front of one of her boring, gray filing cabinets. She pulled out the bottom drawer and leafed through the contents until she came to the 'Enigma Ruins' folder, recently created with black sharpie marker.

She filed away the stack of paperwork and rolled back to her desk after shutting the drawer, wondering just how many more runs she was going to take there before this event was over. To promote the place, they were taking Trainers on extended runs and even letting them take home one extra Pokemon. A lot more Trainers had signed up than they anticipated, and as a result, some of the Rangers were running ragged just to keep up. She had already taken quite a few, and she didn't doubt that more would be on the way.

The sucky part about more runs was the extra paperwork to go along with it. They kept most of the information on the computer network these days, but ever since they had a crash that wiped almost all data out, the higher ups had instructed that basic hard copies of runs were also going to be kept. It was just another task on their already busy schedules. Not to mention it was boring.

She had just reached for the first paper of a new stack when there was a light tapping on her wooden office door. She looked up with a raised eyebrow, only to see Leo, one of her fellow Rangers, looking in with a grin on his face and a manilla folder in hand.

?Hey, doll,? he said, a devious glint to his eyes. He shook his head to remove the red-brown hair from his face as he continued to smile at her. She just rolled her eyes. ?I have a job for you.?

Ivy sighed and put down her pen. ?Let me guess, there's a run.?

He smiled even more broadly (that she didn't think was possible) and walked over, setting the folder down in front of her. ?You got it. This guy's new to the Park, so I figured I'd let you handle it.?

?And you can't take this one because...??

?I'm heading off for a well-earned vacation. You have fun now,? he said as he smiled again, not letting her get another word in before he disappeared out the door.

She took a peek into the folder and found that it was another Event Run. Someone named Ash was going to take a swing at using the Park. Now was a good time. She had seen many satisfied Trainers come out of this new area.

She gathered her equipment as she poked Haji, her Espeon, mentally, to rouse him from his sleep. He more than likely knew what was going on anyway, since their mental bonds let him read her mind more easily. He could do that to most people in general without the bond, but the telepathic connection let them have a steady line of communication that was simple to sustain.

When they were ready to go, the purple cat warped them to the new Enigma Ruins. She got that familiar feeling of the air closing in around her as they teleported, but as soon as she felt it, it was over. There were still chunks of the concrete pillars waiting to be removed. Most of the debris had been already cleared away, but it was a slow process.

She settled back against a larger boulder as they waited for their Trainer to arrive. This would be her first run of the day, unlike other times when she had taken three different people through this facility. Hopefully it would be a fun one.

?Another Psychic-Pokemon nears,? Haji said against her mind, feeling the presence long distance way before she could.

    ( @WinterVines;)

One morning, Ash woke with a start to a huge yellow dragon roaring at him. When Dragonite saw its trainer and friend had awoken, he ceased the obnoxious roaring and began pointing incessantly in a particular direction. Ash, still waking up and half conscious, said wearily, "What is it? The bark run? The park run!" fully awake and alert for and following the last sentence.

Now that he was alert, Ash looked around to see that as well as the dragon, there was also a green and white humanoid with red spikes in its chest and head and double-bladed arms which Ash immediately recognized as one of his other most trusted partners, Gallade. Aware of the time urgency, Ash hopped on Dragonite's back and indicated Gallade should follow. The warrior gladly obeyed and jumped on behind his trainer, wrapping his arms around him for support.

Dragonite took off with another mighty roar, as if daring everyone to oppose him. Soon the mighty dragon accelerated to outrageous speeds and, unlike his passengers, didn't notice as a silvery-bluish speck in the distance. As they continued to rush towards their destination and the distant speck, the air began to shimmer as if with magic. Soon they got close enough the speck came clearly into view, except it wasn't a speck. It was the legendary deity of time, Dialga! Dialga opened its gaping maw and let out a mighty roar, turning the shimmering air into a tunnel they were forced to pass through. Gallade and his trainer began shuddering with fear at the experience of warped space, or as Ash accurately guessed, time, but Dragonite dauntlessly pushed through the tunnel of purplish-blue temporal energy. Soon they exited to find the air a little warmer. Ash checked several technological gadgets from his pockets before declaring, "We just traveled over two years into the future!"

They soon landed in an area that looked like it had been left by an ancient civilization but now stood partially crumbling, unknown secrets being erased by the cruelest of elements, the one whose deity they had just encountered. Gallade's psychic abilities allowed him to sense the presence of another nearby Psychic type, so he led the way. Soon a purple cat-like Pokémon and her trainer lay resting against a huge boulder. Ash walked forward and introduced himself and his partners, saying, "Hello, these are my partners Dragonite and Gallade and I'm Ash. I'm guessing you're going to be my Ranger? Sorry about the delay, that's a story you may be interested in hearing at some point. But for now, let us begin this epic adventure."

@Ash K.; I’m not calling you active until I see another post! =P

    NBP#2

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

After Haji’s sensing, it didn’t take long for a couple forms to appear. An orange Dragon-type Pokemon spilled down to the ground with a Trainer and another Psychic-type in tow. Ivy got up to greet them.

The Trainer introduced himself and his Dragonite and Gallade, looking a little frayed around the edges. His hair was even sticking up in places. Maybe they had a rough trip.

Ivy shook his hand. “Yeah, I’m Ivy, the Ranger on this run. This is Haji,” she told him, motioning to the purple cat. “If you’re all set, we can get going before it gets too late.”

The Enigma Ruins were revealed when the Outer Heavens suddenly collapsed, revealing an underground complex that stretched a lot further than they imagined. It was highly advanced technology-wise too, which was curious because the place was old. Inside, warp devices had been created in many rooms to port in Pokemon for study, often replicating whole environments.

They were still in the process of mapping the entire place out, but they did have a solid-enough map to be able to invite Trainers in. A lot of them liked the idea of encountering every possible Pokemon instead of heading to one of the specific areas.

Walking down the dirt path to the building, Ivy kept her arms out for balance so she didn’t fall. When they approached the sleek, metal doors, they whooshed open like those at a supermarket. It was strange things like that that the Rangers were investigating. How could such an old place have modern-day technology?

The group stepped into the main hallway, a long path that housed doors to many rooms. Crates used to be stacked in here, filled with old supplies, but they had been cleared away. Ivy had taken many people through here already. One time, the hallway had flooded.

Suddenly, the doors slid closed behind them. That wasn’t unusual, but something tickled Ivy’s senses. When she stepped close to it, the doors remained motionless. They wouldn’t open.

The light above the door had turned red. The Ranger walked over to the control pad on the side and hit a few buttons, but there was no response from the door.

“Huh,” she said. “That’s strange. It’s never done that before.”

The key was staying calm. They weren’t necessarily trapped in here, per se. Teleportation was an option, and they could always radio for help. There was also the fun way, which would fulfill his run requirements at the same time.

“All we really have to do is head to the main control center and open the doors from there. I wouldn’t be surprised if something flipped a switch—there’s a lot of old parts here, and wild Pokemon often wander around. The quickest way to the center is…”

Ivy trailed off as her brow furrowed. She had her phone out, intent on using the map they had etched out already. The map was fuzzy and wouldn’t work right. Good thing she had navigated this place before. They were going in blind.

“Well, never mind that,” Ivy told him. “We may as well check the place out on the way. You’re here to catch some Pokemon after all.”

When it went quiet, Ivy heard splashing from a room to the left, one that had a green light above it—it was still open. Another door down the hall was cracked, as if the sliding doors stopped halfway. There was flashing lights and the sound of sparks coming from there.

Ivy said, “It looks like you have two options right away.” She paused to point. “Either one could have Pokemon inside, since we found the warp panels in here have started malfunctioning and transporting Pokemon when they stumble onto them. What do you say?”

( @WinterVines; Oh look, another post, am I active now?)

Quietly but excitedly following Ivy's lead, the group progressed intently listening to the curious explanation of the enigmatic area. Soon though, the doors closing behind them seemed to trap them in, leaving the only option to proceed into the unknown. Ash watched as Ivy attempted a few things before concluding that their best option to pick one of two rooms to explore.

While Ash considered which would be a better adventure, Dragonite took off from where he had been standing and charged headfirst into the green-lit door to the left with the splashing sounds. Ash charged after him, shouting, "Wait for me!" Gallade rushed after Ash, able to keep up with his trainer but neither quite able to keep up with the determined dragon.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Trainer was quiet for a moment as he contemplated what to do. Apparently, that was too long because his Dragonite suddenly snorted and hopped into the air, whooshing toward the green-lit door. Thankfully he hadn’t flown too fast, since the mechanical door swished open just moments before the large, orange dragon would’ve ran into it. That probably would’ve been awkward.

“Wait for me!” the Trainer yelled, running after his Dragon-type with his Gallade not far behind.

Ivy shook her head and followed leisurely—if it had been something dangerous, Haji probably would’ve given them a heads up.

The Ranger and her psychic cat entered into the new room, and she didn’t hesitate to give the sliding door a flat look. With the way things were going, she wouldn’t be surprised if this door suddenly stopped working too. However, when it whooshed shut, the light above the frame stayed green. It had better stay that way.

Ivy was drawn out of her one-sided staring match when she heard a small, but angry, cry. In the corner of the room, a small, blue Pokemon was looking pretty displeased. The two purple forks on the sides of its head signaled that it was a Wooper, and it didn’t look happy to see them.

The small creature was currently standing in a puddle a couple inches in depth, which was strange because all of the crates in the room signaled that this was a storage room. She thought they had cleared all of the equipment out, but it wouldn’t be surprising if something was missed. Regardless, there shouldn’t be water.

Above the Pokemon, Ivy spied the cause of the mess—one of the pipes had broken through the top of the wall and was steadily dripping down onto the ground. That wasn’t good. Was the rest of this room that unstable?

The Wooper let out a fierce cry again, puffing out its cheeks and trying to look as menacing as a small Pokemon could. It was pointedly looking at the large Dragonite who had busted in, not intimidated at all by the dragon’s size. The Wooper jumped up and down and splashed water to show his frustration.

“Well, someone didn’t wake up on the right side of the lily pad this morning. Want take a crack at it?” Ivy asked the Trainer.

    ( @WinterVines; I live too!)

The young trainer looked at the frustrated Pokémon and procliamed, "It sure doesn't look happy to see us, I think it's better that we leave it in peace. I think the bigger issue we should be worried about is those pipes anyways." Then he walked over to his partner, Dragonite, and slowly reached out a hand in an attempt to calm the majestic Pokémon. "Has something got you so riled up, Dragonite? Could you at least go at a pace the rest of us can keep up with if you want to go running off?"

Although Dragonite continued glaring determinedly back at Wooper, he also seemed soothed by Ash's peaceful words and simple gestures. Dragonite slowed and then stopped flapping his wings, landing on the ground a few feet below. Ash suggested, "Let's go elsewhere to investigate the pipes. This may need to be addressed, and quickly." With that, he headed for the door. Dragonite followed surprisingly calmly, as did Gallade. Ash couldn't help but notice as Dragonite would occasionally steal a glance at the little Pokémon on their way out. "As long as he doesn't attack, he can look at whatever Pokémon he wants," Ash thought to himself.

@Ash K.; You are now more active than about 90% of all my Trainers. That is the strangest thing.

    NBP#4

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Trainer reached out to soothe his Pokemon. Ivy wondered if it was common for the large dragon to just shoot off unaccompanied. While that wasn’t too bad of a trait, it could be dangerous in these halls, where anything could show up. Fitting a legendary into one of these rooms might be messy and a nasty surprise to walk in on.

Thankfully, the Dragonite didn’t seem to protest as Ash tried to usher him out, although the reptile continued to glare. What was up with that?

“Let’s go elsewhere to investigate the pipes. This may need to be addressed, and quickly,” the Trainer said.

Ivy nodded, scanning the ceiling. The pipes seemed to run north, which would be down the hallway into other rooms. The drip here wasn’t bad, but the pipes could be broken in other places too. Moreso than that, the water shouldn’t even be on. This place had been abandoned years ago and there was no need for the utilities to be going, other than electricity, which the Park funded. Unless someone else was here—and that was troubling.

Ivy kept that in mind as they exited the room. The Wooper held its fierce look, but it didn’t follow them. The little Pokemon had probably just been angry that they invaded its territory. The puddle would hopefully keep it busy for a while.

Once they were in the hall, a sensation on the edge of Ivy’s senses made her stop. A faint laughter filled her ears, so faint that she hardly heard it. She whirled in her spot, from the exit back down the hallway, but there was nothing there.

“Did you hear anything?” she asked before thinking, wondering if the Trainer was going to think she was crazy or something.

Haji’s ears were up and he was alert, but he didn’t seem alarmed. Nothing dangerous then. At least not right this second. She silently asked him if he knew what it was, but the purple cat didn’t know. He hadn’t heard anything.

“Well, I guess we can do nothing but go forward,” she finally said. The main door, she noted, was still shining red above.

The other semi-open door was still stuck in its half position down the left side of the hall. There were still minute bursts of light coming from the gap. Ivy doubted that the pipes, at least this set of pipes, ran across the other side of the hall, but it could be possible. Either way, something was going on in that room.

“There’s still the room over there, if you wanted to check it out. And I think the main control room was to the west,” she told Ash, pointing down the hall until the T-junction was visible. West would head them toward the left. She had no clue where the water shut-off would be, even if she had a map. This place was so vast that it was nearly impossible to explore all of it in one go.

Ivy kept that strange laughter at the back of her mind but patiently waited for the Trainer to make up his mind on where he wanted to go next.

(( @WinterVines; Sorry, had to fix that))

After leaving behind the energetic Wooper and calming down Dragonite, Ivy and Ash had to focus on the issue at hand: What's wrong with the pipes and why is the water on?

Deep in thought about the problem, Ash vaguely heard faint laughter followed by someone asking if he heard anything. However, he was too focused to actually process it or reply. A bit later, he vaguely heard "Well, I guess we can do nothing but go forward.” He subconsciously and silently began walking west even as Ivy said “There’s still the room over there, if you wanted to check it out. And I think the main control room was to the west.”

Still in deep thought about what might be happening, it seemed obvious that the only way to figure it out was to go the heart of the problem, the main control room. He know that the others, Gallade, Dragonite, Ivy, and Haji, would be close behind.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ash began walking toward the T-junction without seemingly registering what she said, but she just followed. She was still partially distracted by the laughter—it hadn’t been creepy exactly, but something about it bothered her anyway.

Then, she felt it, just as they stood in the center of the intersection. Ivy looked east, behind them, but nothing was there, just a long line of unopened doors that seemed to stretch forever. She knew the complex was a lot longer than most buildings should be—there was a rumor it was connected to other places around the Park through the underground.

When she turned back to the west, the hallway looked just like its opposite, but something kept her attention. From the way both Haji and the Gallade were slightly tenser, they felt it too.

“Hang on a second,” she told the Trainer when he would’ve kept going.

Her brow furrowed as she felt the barest wisp of energy pass over them. Something was definitely there.

The laughter sounded again, though she couldn’t even be sure she was hearing it. Maybe it was just in her mind. It was soft and barely there, like delicate bell chimes. What in the world…?

Then she saw the barest flash of white down the hall on the left, disappearing between a doorway. A few seconds later, there was an instant of green on the right side, farther down. A third time, she caught a more complete picture as it reappeared for an instant, putting even more distance between them.

“Did you see the Pokemon?” she asked with a slight grimace. When Pokemon were being tricky, it wasn’t always good. “It’s going down the way we need to go, but it might try interfering. Or maybe it just wants to play.”

If the Trainer was given a heads up, he could figure out what he wanted to do with it.
