Default Lilith, Beginner Capture Quest (Origamidragons)

Shimmering saltwater spanned as far as Lilith could see as she looked out over the docks, watching new passengers board the ferry that had brought her here. She couldn’t help but feel a little thrill as she turned toward the west, where the Kua she’d finally left behind lay hidden by distance. While she would still have to be careful - she wasn’t the only Storm Kua native here, and the sword on her hip had already attracted more than a few admiring and curious glances from several strangers - her great escape was complete and, for the moment, secure.

Lilith wasn’t the only one happy to have made land in Forge Kua. Sunspot sat beside her, eyes closed as the rays beat down. The Heliolisk still seemed rather weak, but he had enough life in him to lift his tail and head toward the sun.

From this vast port, the world seemed open, full of possibilities. Sanda was a huge city, full of marketplaces where vendors were hawking various strange machines, as well as food and clothes exclusive to the Forge Kua. Huge, glorious ships, far more extravagant and advanced than anything that the Storm Kua’s shipwrights created, were constantly in and out of the docks. People were everywhere, some sort of scene being caused everywhere Lilith looked.

Speaking of scenes… a young man, roughly Lilith’s age, was standing nearby, holding a satchel high above a Venonat chirping eagerly at his feet. At first, it seemed to be the boy’s Pokemon, but that illusion was broken quickly when an Oddish at the boy’s side attempted to push the bug away with vines, only to be thrown aside by the bright flash of a psychic attack. The Venonat proceeded to insistently mob the boy, clearly interested in the bag.

"Could someone help?" The boy looked around, trying to get someone to come to his aid. The Venonat didn't seem like it was attacking much, so much as making a nuisance of itself. The boy would probably be fine if Lilith just walked away, though the nosey Venonat would no doubt still keep up its fearsome reign of nipping and squeaking. "Come on, please?"

Lilith was in awe. Nearly all of her life thus far had been spent within the high stone walls of her family's castle, the monotony of hanging tapestries and long carpets only broken by her surreptitious sword-fighting lessons with the guard, and, much less enjoyably, the occasional fancy event that her mother attended or hosted. She was inevitably forced to wear an uncomfortable gown and smile prettily at those parties, and she had despised every minute of it. She was never going to one of those again, she thought, and smiled a fierce, proud smile.

Instead of the cold stone walls locking her in, the world was now open to her in a way it had never been before, and she stared out over the seemingly endless glimmering waves and the city towering ahead with unabashed wonder. She could practically taste the possibility, carried on the unfamiliar air. There were so many things she had to see, so much she had to do. She was going to try street food, and feel the sun on her skin, and enjoy her life. Maybe if she managed to train her Pokemon enough, she could even challenge the Shi of Forge!

Speaking of her Pokemon... she glanced down at Sunspot, who was lying at her side, body stretched out as though to catch the rays of the sun on every inch of his rough skin. It was never this sunny in Storm, and Lilith found herself copying her Pokemon, tilting her pale face back to feel the warmth of the sun. They sat like that for a moment, almost meditative, until they felt the slight jolt as the boat finished docking and the gangway came down.

She stood, gently picking up Sunspot and setting the little lizard on her shoulder so he wouldn’t get trampled. She was halfway down the wooden ramp, bag slung over her shoulder and mind far away, dreaming of all the things she wanted to do, when she noticed the commotion. She furrowed her brow slightly, hurrying the rest of the way down onto the docks. It didn’t look like the boy was in any danger, but it wasn’t like she had anyplace to be, and besides, she always did love battling. She glanced at the Helioptile on her shoulder, and her grey eyes met his electric blue.

“What do you say, Sunspot?” she asked with a grin already forming. “You feel good enough for a little tussle?”

The Helioptile tilted his head to the side, then flicked his tongue out to taste the air. Lilith chose to take it as assent, and approached the Pokémon and boy.

“Sunspot, give it a little Razor Wind,” she ordered, now wearing a full grin. This was what she’d always wanted to be doing- traveling, training Pokémon, helping people out with problems large and small. That was the sort of thing knights would do in the old stories she used to love, though their feats would doubtless be more dramatic than scaring off an annoying Venonat. That was okay, though. Everyone had to start somewhere.

For a moment, Sunspot looked hesitant - the little lizard didn’t seem like it had been in many serious fights in its life, and the bug Pokemon was both alien-looking and three times his size. However, he seemed to understand his Trainer’s orders well enough. The ribbons on the size of his head unfurled, revealing a pair of fan-like structures each with three jagged, bright yellow points. Sunspot rose up to his hindpaws, eyes narrowed in concentration, front claws curled together…

“Heli-oh!” With a mighty shout and a powerful effort, Sunspot threw his arms forward, sending out a barrage of compressed, razor-sharp air interspersed with crescents of bright white light. While the majority of the attack hit the Venonat, both the Pokemon and its intended prey were scratched up by the wind.

[Sunspot used Razor Wind! Venonat took 5 points of damage!]

“Hey!” The boy glared at Sunspot, apparently not liking the means of his rescue. But if the boy was exasperated, the Venonat was infuriated. With a trill of rage, it lunged forward, slamming its bristling purple body into Sunspot. The Helioptile let out a whimper of pain and tumbled down the dock, thrown by the force of Venonat’s attack.

[Venonat used Tackle! Sunspot took 3 points of damage!]

However, with surprising resilience, Sunspot hopped to his feet and fanned his frill out once more. His little tail trembled with nerves, but he was looking energetic - probably for the first time in a while.

All of this commotion was drawing the interest of some of the docks’ less friendly Pokemon. A Zubat, perturbed enough by this fight to flap out of its nest below the docks, perched on a nearby streetlamp. Keen eyes could tell that the bat was fixated on the fight occurring below it, its ears back and fangs showing in what was clearly a gesture of hostility toward the too-loud Pokemon and humans.
