    Default Maika: Beginner Quest (W32Coravint)

    @W32Coravint;

A plateau of wonder and mystery, the Heaven Kua slumbers in the early hours of the misty morning. Although a bustling city,
Zhenyi's inhabitants understand the importance of sleep and quietness. Thus at night, it looks more like the ruins found throughout the countryside than an actual, thriving city. Columns, stone pillars, obelisks, and forums line the stone streets of this ancient, bibliophile's dreamland.

Beyond the walls of the massive city lay the ashy hills scarred from war. Rumor says the hills used to be a massive plain, but the war was so intense, so deadly, so terrible, that now remains the hills there are today. Set on fire, the ashes of the fallen curse the land to it's permanent, foggy gray; the souls of which now mourn the land with ghostly wails.

Further out the plateau stretches into more mystery than before. Massive canyons emerge from nowhere with towering pillars of forested mountains, like someone had pushed the land through a grater, yet the canyon had marks of evolution through the millennia. Here, a permanent mist covers the land, accompanied by the sound of falling water. Streams ebb and flow between the pillars, but their source is cause of many local myths and legends.

It can be seen on the rarer days that the wind pushes some of the mist away, that water falls from some of these pillars as well as from floating islands in the sky. Myths tell of the most ancient civilization had once conquered these islands and built their homes there, that the mist condenses into pools upon these islands and have healing properties. Only those with the ability to climb waterfalls would be able to attempt scaling up to these islands as flying is near impossible with zero visibility.

The land stretches further until it meets the sea where the plateau falls sharply. Islands off the coast are visible, but their shape confounds many until the most scholarly of individuals realizes the similarity of shape as other basins in the land: a crater. There are many craters formed by heavenly bodies throughout the Kua, but a massive one has made an entire island off the coast.

Pushed up into the plateau it is by the Aurora mountains in the west, and falls dramatically into the lush Valley in the east, the Heaven Kua lays open, ready for the day, as the focus shifts onto a shy, yet adventurous trainer: Maika, and her two companions Kiruku the Ralts and Mitsuku the Eevee.

Maika steps out of her home as Kiruku and Mitsuku trail behind her, Kiruku not paying much attention to where she was walking, only enough to follow her trainer.

Ah, today is the beginning of my new adventure
    , she thinks to herself.

Maika's Pokémon have other plans. Kiruku had inhabited one of the libraries prior to her adoption and had heard discussions of the theories of a person known as Jiejisute Ai'en in the local tongue - though it was noted that Jiejisute was not from Onmyo and was, too, from another neighboring region - about the latent power emanating from Pokémon and how they could be harnessed and improved. And Mitsuku doesn't really know how to pin it down, but her Pokémon instincts constantly drew her to collecting certain species of plants; she'd collected a few at home, but now that she was able to almost roam free...

Maika doesn't know any of this, of course. She thinks they're perfectly normal Pokémon, who were content with just being alongside her.

"So, what do you want to do?" she asks Kiruku and Mitsuku. Kiruku faintly smiles, knowing she can't tell her trainer what she wants to do but appreciating the sentiment anyway. Mitsuku simply sits there before suddenly running off. Maika follows her - she knows her Eevee isn't exactly fit for battle at the moment. Neither was Kiruku, but Mitsuku was particularly defenseless - she had arrived injured at their house and had only just recovered. Mitsuku stopped for her trainer after a short distance.

"Don't go running off like that! You scared me, you know?" Maika says as she catches up with the Eevee, but Mitsuku runs off again, leading her trainer somewhere...

The nearly-wild Eevee Mitsuku scampered off, kicking up dirt with her little paws as she ran. Trailing after her was Maika and Kiruku, as silent and contemplative as ever. The trio were just leaving home, so they were still within the bounds of their small town, and it was unlikely anything would attack. The pokemon who came closer to the towns were usually benign, or simply lurking.

The townspeople themselves were actually a little more suspicious of Maiko- she had lived there for a while, but hadn't yet started to naturally speak in the native tongue. It was as if she preferred to speak in the language that nobody else really understood, and that made her a bit of an outsider in society. It was the Heaven Kua though, so it wasn't as if anyone was openly angry about her lack of language skills- they were more guarded and curious, ever the scholars, wondering about why she spoke that way.

As the trio ran, a neighbour gave them a wave, but didn't bother with a verbal greeting.
"Ah that Eevee, must be after berries again." The robed woman mumbled to herself, suppressing a smile as they ran past. "You ought to train it better!" She advised, shaking her head.

Mitsuku, however, did NOT seem to be on the trail for berries. Nope, instead, as they dashed up the path out of town, the Eevee startled a Hoothoot who was apparently a little slow on getting home and had been resting next to the path. An Eevee barrelling up the path, followed by two more creatures, really gave it a fright! It took off with a flurry of wings, Hooting tiredly.
Mitsuku might have stopped to watch it, and let her trainer catch up.

    Before them was the path that led across to the nearest ruins- they were quite tamed, as far as ruins went. Someone had taken the time to plant a garden there recently, just to experiment and see how things took to that kind of environment. Of course, they could also go back down the path and into the city, to look at the older libraries and catacombs, and perhaps talk to people. Not that there weren't people out in the ruins during the day, of course, but the ones that were out on the land were a little... weirder. Oh, uh, I mean, more peaceful. Yeah, peaceful. Sure. @W32Coravint;

Maika waved at the lady as she ran past, not understanding much of what she had said.

"Let's go to those ruins and see what they have to offer," Maika said as she caught up to Mitsuku, who now seemed content with Maika's pace. Kiruku was smiling, too, and she seemed pretty optimistic about the path ahead. Just to make sure she didn't run off again, Maika picked her Eevee up.

As they entered the ruins, Mitsuku immediately turned her attention to the garden and struggled to get out of Maika's grip. "Calm down there, Mitsuku. Can't have you going around messing everything up, right?"

The Eevee continued to struggle and pulled some sort of trick maneuver to get herself out of her Trainer's grip. Maika stumbled a little, and stared at her Eevee: just like that, Mitsuku was running off to the garden, first inspecting the field of flowers of all types for something she'd wanted - ah! A perfectly symmetrical white rose caught her attention, almost as if it were calling out to her, and she excitedly ran, taking care not to trample anything, to the flower and admired it for a few seconds.

"Mitsuku!" Maika called out, but it was too late - the Eevee had bitten through the stem of the flower, picked it up and was now running back towards her Trainer, looking as if she had accomplished something very important for herself.

I'm really going to get into trouble for this now, aren't I? Maika thought to herself.

Maika was doing her best to contain her squirmy eevee friend, but didn’t manage to keep a hold on her for very long! Luckily her other pokemon, Kiruku, was much more tame and followed her trainer around dutifully.

The garden that they came across was beautiful! Small red and purple flowers grew from cracks in the stones, cascading down crumbling walls. The ground was a patchwork of various coloured mosses- silvery, dark greens, bright emeralds, and the dirt path wound through the ruins easily. Every now and again, yes! There were rosebushes! Somewhat wild and untrimmed looking, most of the bushes had very small, lightly pink blowers blooming. A few of the rosebushes had darker roses, which were still wrapped up tightly into buds. It seemed that everything here didn’t flower at the same time. Mitsuku had actually been exceptionally lucky to find such a perfect white rose, and it was the only one on its particular bush. The ground around the white rose bush was littered with white petals though, so perhaps that plant had bloomed earlier than the others, and that had been its final display for the season.

Pokemon do seem to like gardens, and this garden was no exception. Small cutieflies fluttered up and down the walls, sticking their little noses into the tiny bobbing flowerheads. They didn’t seem to be upset by people bursting into their home, but did eye the group warily. If too much damage was done, they probably would decide to intervene.

There was another pokemon here, however, and it was pretty mad. A fluffy little Spritzee bird had been tending to the roses, and clucked with anger as the Eevee had the gall to actually pick the last beautiful bloom on one of its favourite trees.
”Sprit. ZEE!” It chided, flying up behind Mitsuku rapidly, pushing a great gust of glittering wind over towards the trio.

    Spritzee used Fairy Wind!
Mitsuku the Eevee took 1HP Damage!

It wasn’t terribly strong, because the Spritzee was in a bit of a rush, but the brunt of it smacked into Mitsukus tail as she showed off the flower to her trainer, so the frisky eevee took a little bit of damage.

Mitsuku jumped a little on being attacked. After dropping the rose onto the floor - it landed unharmed, luckily - and, with a quick cry, telling Kiruku to keep watch over it, she turned to the Spritzee and, wasting no more time, launched herself at her foe. "Mitsuku, stop! Now!" Maika shouted, but it was too late.

Mitsuku used Iron Tail and Toxic simultaneously!

She hardened her bushy tail far beyond what would normally be possible, spun around in mid-air, and tried to whack the Spritzee over the head. At the same time, she manifested an amorphous blob of purple between her front paws and shoved it towards the Spritzee's face at close range. Regardless of whether the hits connected, she landed facing her foe from the other side, just in front of the entrance of the garden.

Kiruku looked up at her trainer, as if to say "should I do something?" Maika responded by shaking her head and placing a Sitrus Berry in Kiruku's hands. "I don't want you to get hurt unless it's necessary. Give this to her if she gets hit too hard," she said.

Although she couldn't admit it, Maika was surprised to see Mitsuku's abilities in battle. It was the first time the Eevee had gotten herself into a full-on fight, and it seemed that she was capable of several techniques her Trainer didn't expect her to even know of. And if she were as young as she looked, how did she know all these moves?

Maika didn't ponder about it for long, though, as she had to keep watch on the battle to make sure her Eevee didn't get too heavily injured.

What a smart and talented little eevee Mitsuku was! Despite not listening to her trainers commands, she pulled off an impressive combination of moves. The Spritzee tried to dodge sideways away from the iron tail, but copped it on the wing. Despite that, Mitsuku was younger and not as strong as the wild Spritzee, so it was pretty tough, and recovered quickly. The ball of toxic goo splashed onto the flying fairy creature too, and it fluttered around haplessly for a second before coming to terms with the stinging sensation of being poisoned.

    Spritzee took 1HP Damage
    The Spritzee was poisoned!

The Spritzee shivered with the feeling of poison, but locked eyes with Mitsuku. It opened them widely, and it was if an intangible psychic force struck out at the Eevee, although nothing else in the clearing moved at all.

    Spritzee took 2HP Toxic damage.
Spritzee used Psychic! It inflicted 4HP damage to Mitsuku!

In fact, nothing really stirred at all. The morning breezes had stopped, and on the horizon, a grey mist had begun to very slowly edge its way in. This was fairly normal for many places in Heaven Kua, but it did make adventuring from the path a little more dangerous.

The Cutiefly had mostly all moved on now, although one remained, sitting on a collapsed wall and buzzing worriedly. So far there hadn’t been any other garden damage, but it was one of the more territorial types, so it was watching, waiting just in case

Mitsuku reeled from the attack, letting out a sort of muffled screech, before landing on the ground.

Kiruku was visibly distressed by the ongoing battle, but stayed by her Trainer's side. That is, until Maika decided that Mitsuku wasn't strong enough to fight back. "Actually, Kiruku, engage it. Thunder Wave! Then follow up with Shadow Ball!" Maika ordered.

Kiruku took aim at her foe and sent a wide arc of electricity, aimed at such an angle that it would miss the garden and the trees, and go upward into the sky and dissipate over the following few hundred feet, directly at the Spritzee. She waited for the arc to hit or miss, and then proceeded to send an orb of dark purple energy at it, carrying with it some dark energy.

Kiruku used Thunder Wave and Shadow Ball!

Mitsuku wasn't going to stand there and take it, though. She took in energy and ran up towards her foe, spinning two blobs of energy in her tiny front paws, one light blue and one bright pink with green flecks, then threw them simultaneously towards it at high speeds. The light blue orb was freezing and cooled the air around it as it flew past, despite its rapid pace, and the bright pink one carried with it the feeling of resting in an open field of flowers, drawing the Spritzee to sleep if it hit. Both of them packed quite a punch with them, especially at the speed at which the Eevee had lobbed the spheres. She ran over to the other side and guarded her white flower again.

Mitsuku used Hidden Power (Ice) and Secret Power (Flower Field)!

The Spritzee tried to dodge the thunderwave, but the invisible field fell down over the area, and the only creature that stirred for the next second was the cutiefly wings. Spritzee dropped to the ground quite suddenly, which sent the shadowball soaring overhead, splashing across a section of flowers that promptly wilted under the shadowy influence.
The cutiefly buzzed louder, angry now, and not caring WHY the flowers had wilted. It was SOMEONE'S fault, and they were going to pay!

Spritzee was paralyzed! Spritzee can't attack!

The eevees untrained attacks were flung in quick succession, and while the Spritzee had fallen, the Mitsuku had mostly compensated. The secret power of flower field landed squarely on the area the Spritzee was, while the hidden icy power hit slightly above, freezing a little circle of flowerbed. This was the last straw for cutiefly.

It buzzed forwards, joining the fray with a sparkling light that almost seemed to hurt the eyeballs themselves. Unrelenting, bright and harsh, this glimmer struck right into the brain of any Pokemon nearby. For now, that meant Spritzee, Eevee and Ralts were all targets- as well as Maika herself!

    All targets took 2HP damage!

The Spritzee was out for the count, after taking the brunt of paralysis, sleeping effects, and damage. It lay in a perfumed little heap in front of Maikas party, totally prone.
While everyone was probably blinking their eyes back to normal vision again, the cutiefly hovered, moving closer to the patches of flowers that had wilted and frozen.

"Mitsuku, we need to go. Now." Maika ordered as soon as she could, hoping to flee from the scene. However, Mitsuku was undeterred, and ready to take on the Cutiefly despite the fact that it was far more powerful than she was. Before Maika could react, Mitsuku confidently - perhaps a little overconfidently in fact - glowed red with a sort of cross between determination to bring down her enemy and a blind rage, before using her newly gained strength and energy to run up to the Cutiefly and charge at it with blinding speed and reaction time. She also tried to knock the Cutiefly down to the ground if possible, hoping that the fact that she was an estimated twenty to thirty times heavier than her foe would bring it crashing to the ground.

Mitsuku used Work Up and Quick Attack!

"Fine, we're going to have to do this then," Maika sighed, before ordering Kiruku after Mitsuku had finished her attack and was now running off. "Teleport near it, then pull off a close-range Thunder Wave. Oh, and give this to Mitsuku," she added, giving her Ralts a Sitrus Berry.

Kiruku then teleported slightly above and slightly behind of the insect Pokémon. As the effects of gravity pulled her downward, she proceeded to shoot a bolt of electricity at the insect Pokémon at what would hopefully be close range with more than enough voltage to paralyze its wings and hopefully its entire body. She tossed the berry towards the Eevee, then teleported back to Maika, her work done.

Kiruku used Teleport and Thunder Wave!

And if anything at all went too horribly wrong, Maika was just about ready to leg it the heck out of there, grabbing Mitsuku herself if she had to.
