Aleria stood outside of the front office to the Park. The person she was supposed to be escorting through the Ultra Wormhole today was apparently someone who didn't quite want to be there. Rumor had it among the other Rangers in the office that the guy was forced to go in by family. She was the one who picked up the run (first one on the list, first one to be picked up, clear the line out), and the Rangers told her to wait for him at the front office instead of at the entrance to the Enigma Ruins.

Aleria shrugged, but she waited anyways.

And so she stood outside of the front office, her Charizard soaring the skies and stretching her wings. Riza would be their transport to the Enigma Ruins, provided the kid wasn't too afraid of flying on the back of a large Fire and Flying type Pokemon. If he was, then they would walk, and Riza would return to her Poke Ball. Either way, Riza was getting her exercise in for the day.

And Aleria was doing something she rarely did, greeting trainers who came into the front office in preparation for runs. It was truly a sight to be seen, and it wasn't something that would likely be happening again, at least not any time soon.

There wasn't a ferry scheduled to arrive this hour. The next one wouldn't be getting here for another seventy-five minutes, give or take; it'd be bringing the next batch of Trainers from the closest mainland once the Park staff had had a chance to confirm that all the paperwork was in order and no forbidden items or unauthorized Pokémon were aboard. It would be a long wait for this Trainer, "Egbert," to arrive— hang on, what was that in the sky?

It was approaching over the ocean from the direction of Kanto. No flying Pokémon went so far out to sea; and as the speck above the horizon grew closer and larger, it became clear that this was too big to be any but the rarest Pokémon. A vehicle, then, but no Park hovercraft were scheduled to be arriving in the area today. If this was a plane, it would have to have been authorized directly by Park management to be permitted to make such an approach... And such authorization was notoriously difficult to obtain. Was this a direct flaunting of the Park's regulations??

Apparently not, based on the sudden appearance of some Park orderlies near the docks down the hill from the Park's main office. Six or seven men and women were walking out of various doors in the dockyard administrative building, where normally "customs" was processed, and taking positions around an empty space at the National Park docks. It appeared that, according to the powers that be, whoever was in that vehicle was allowed to be here.

The flying vehicle drew closer and began to descend in preparation for landing— certain to give Riza a respectfully wide berth as the Charizard circled— and now more could be seen of it. A sleek craft shaped (and sized) like a cross between a sport SUV and a small luxury yacht, this vehicle was clearly a new model: all chrome and graphene-plated glass and near-silent thrusters. It slowed to a hover ten yards above the dockyard, and sank down smoothly through the air to splash down in an empty space at the pier where the ferries docked. There was a brief commotion, as groups of Park staff who hadn't been aware the vehicle was cleared for landing rushed out of the administrative buildings by the pier and were stopped by the orderlies who were already waiting for it. Meanwhile, a vertical door opened upwards, as though the vehicle were a dignified Braviary deigning to lift her wing; and a tall, impeccably dressed man stepped out from the driver's seat and onto the pier.

From the front office building, an onlooker would be able to see at least some details: the man looked to be in his late twenties, and he was wearing a black tailcoat, a high-collared white shirt, and a cheerful expression. His blond hair was barely two inches long and immaculately tidy, spiked a little at the front and swept back tastefully with the judicious application of the barest touch of hair gel. He looked around, nodded as though pleased at what he saw, and strode up, still smiling graciously, to one of the staff who were moving to get his paperwork. As he moved, the glint of sunlight from the two Poké Balls and two Ultra Balls affixed to the leather belt at his waist proclaimed him a Trainer.

There was a brief and polite exchange— inaudible at this distance— and several waivers were signed with a flourish by the dapper Trainer. A few of the Park orderlies looked to be very taken with this well-mannered and good-looking stranger; more than one envious glance was shot up the hill from the pier to the building where Riza was waiting.

Then the smiling Trainer turned around, walked back to the vehicle, and opened the rear door to assist someone else in climbing out.

The boy who emerged looked as though he'd just awoken from a much-needed nap. His brown hair was tousled, and he blinked sleepily as the well-dressed man— his chauffeur??— helped him stand unsteadily on the gently rocking dock. He mumbled something, and the tall man whispered a response with a sympathetic smile.

The child wore clothing that was the perfect mixture of practical and stylish, but it somehow still failed to give him the appearance of capability. The outfit's colourful and well-chosen mix of shades of purple was marred by what looked like a thorough dusting of down from the pillow he was still clutching to his chest; the understated, tasteful gold highlights up and down his sides, along his shoulders, and at the edges of the black tool-belt he wore just looked gaudy on him. The fabric was practical, breathable nylon, good for any level of activity, and the belt was a wonder of hardy leather, rigid carbon-fiber pouches, and beautifully hand-crafted wooden clasps for the Poké Ball and Ultra Ball affixed there; but the boy didn't look at home in sporty gear or a Trainer's trappings.

The long and short of it was, Ed looked sloppy: the dynamic purple nylon shirt was partially untucked and fell over the right-hand side of his belt, preventing easy access to the Trainer gear on it; his slim, sleeveless mauve jacket was unzipped and heavily creased from having been slept in; and the expression on his face— though hard to make out from this distance— was decidedly not the eager grin of a Trainer preparing to encounter new and interesting Pokémon.

With the prompting of a gentle nudge from the well-dressed professional at his side, the boy named Ed took his first, halting steps along the dock, and up the hill towards the Park's front office.

Behind him, the chauffeur let out a long breath that— in a less evidently professional man— might have been mistaken for a sigh, and ducked back into the flying vehicle's comfortable driver's seat, there to await his young charge's return. From here on in, Ed was in the hands of the Park Ranger assigned to him; and if that didn't suffice to keep him safe and get him to take on the mantle of a real Trainer... well, then nothing would.

Aleria watched as the flying vehicle descended and landed. She saw a well-dressed man walk by her and enter the office, but he exited shortly after. 'That was odd,' she told herself as she watched the man go back towards the direction of his vehicle. Did she need to go back inside and address something? Normally people weren't turned away from the park unless they were closed, and Aleria couldn't remember a time, at least in her time as a Ranger, where the park closed. There were times where it was slow and there were few Rangers helping take trainers on runs, but the park never actually closed. She gave a small shrug. Whatever the problem was, it could wait. She had a trainer to take on a run, and the guy who came in and out left anyways.

She saw a young boy approaching the main office. He was a timid boy, clearly uncertain about what he was getting himself into. Perhaps this was the person she was to escort through the park. They did warn her that it seemed like the kid was being forced to participate in the Ultra Wormhole events.
It was odd, but Aleria shrugged that off too. The kid would be safe with her. She never let anything happen to her trainers (unless, of course, they deserved it, and even then, those very rare instances were more like accidents instead of purposeful harm). The kid would be fine.

She approached him, slowly so as not to scare him away or make him any more frightened than he probably already was. Aleria wore a smile on her face, a soft one to show that she was indeed friendly. The poor kid looked like a mess, as if he'd been dragged out of bed for this. Or maybe he slept on the way over to the Park. The trip to the main office could be a long one for some, so it was understandable if some people came into the main office a little disheveled from their trip. At least they were getting the much needed rest for their expeditions into the park.

"Hi," she said once the kid was close enough. "Are you Egbert?"
