    Default Trainer Sign-Up

Welcome to the Onmyo Region! This thread is where you can sign up your trainer and prepare them for their journey. This thread is where you sign up to begin your journey; once approved by a Navigator, you should store and track your trainer stats in the Onmyo Trainer Stats Subforum (BMG | PWN). Before signing up, we encourage you to take a quick look through the Omnyo Overview, Startup Guide, and Onmyopedia!

Fill out your sign-up post in this thread to the best of your ability! You don’t need to go into a crazy amount of detail if you don’t want to; this is more of a starter. A lot of things will develop organically as you RP more with your character, so feel free to let your thoughts blossom!

    Name: Your trainer’s name.
Age: Trainers can be of any age, but should behave realistically for that age.
Starter: Your trainer can start with any Pokemon in your URPG Stats that is legally allowed as a starter. Check this thread for a list of approved starters.
Kua: Your starter’s type determines which kua you are from! Your starter’s type determines which kua you are from! Depending on the starter selected, you can choose a hometown kua in the Onmyo region based on the types of the starter’s (intended, if multiple exist) final evolution.
Manifest: As you journey away from your home, some of it will always stay with you. Read more about kua-based attributes here and choose one based on your home kua.

Appearance: What does your character look like?
Personality: Who are you and what do you want?” What is your trainer like? How do they react to certain situations; what drives them to action?
History: What happened to your character before their adventure started? This doesn’t have to be crazy or dramatic; some people in Onmyo are just travelling to see the world!
Motivation: Why does your trainer do what they do? What are their goals in the Onmyo region?

Please note: very few humans in Onmyo are telepathic, aura-inclined, or able to understand Pokemon. Signups with these abilities will typically not be allowed.

When you're approved, you begin with the following:
    • Your Starter at level 5, in an Apricorn Ball of choice
    • Onmyo Berries: five Berry slots in Onmyo, per Berry owned in URPG, at full capacity to begin.
    • Apricorn Balls: three of the type found in your kua.

A Navigator will let you know when your sign-up is approved, so keep your eyes peeled! When you're approved, check out this thread for a stats template!

    Name: Bently
    Age: 20
Starter : Nicolas the Gengar -> Nicholas the Gastly https://juliorain.wordpress.com/2017/10/04/nicholas/
Kua: While he has the innovative spirit of the Forge, he understands that his cultural interests lend him to adopt an attitude befitting of the Heaven Kua.
    Manifest: Warder

Personality: Originally hailing from Yunji City in the Forge Kua, his personality is generally sharper and more stubborn than the average Zhenyian. However, he is quiet and very observant. He can be sarcastic and dislikes idiots who pretend to be smarter than they actually are...and they are in no short supply in Zhenyi. He can be hot-headed when provoked, but otherwise very charming to be around.

Appearance: Despite being from a well-off family, there is no obvious marking of his background. He dresses shabbily with messy hair, tall and skinny. He is fairly dark from spending so much time out drawing at the various ruins scattered throughout the city. Many people mocked him for drawing "a bunch of dead rocks," as one gallerist said, but to him, he could only imagine what had happened there in the past.

History: He was Originally from the Forge Kua but moved there as a child when he enrolled in one of Zhenyi's esteemed boarding schools. It was there he found Nicholas a lonely Gastly in the long halls of its library. After Graduation, Bently decided to live and make a living as artist; the ruins sprinkling Zhenyi always inspired him to create beautiful charcoal and pencil drawings of the ruins. He always dreamed of being a famous artist. He is currently living in a shared apartment near the city center with his good friend, Akir, who also has dreams of becoming an artist.

Motivation: His motivations are simple. He loves the city and works nonstop to be a renowned artist in the whole Omnyo region. After getting rejected from the galleries in Zhenyi for the umpteenth time, Bently has decided to do put down the brush, so to speak, and start exploring city more deeply and learning from the outside world with his trusty Gastly at his side, hardened by staying with him at the sites while he worked on his art.

[I’m imagining Zhenyi is a city like Rome in the 1800’s, so please correct me if I’m mistaken.]

    My URPG Berry Bag Contains:
2 Lum Berries, 2 Sitrus Berries, 1 Yache Berry, 1 Chople Berry, 1 Kasib Berry, 1 Roseli Berry, Colbur Berry, Liechi Berry, Ganlon Berry, Salac Berry, Petaya Berry, Apicot Berry, Starf Berry,

Also I want Nicolas to be in a Black Apriball.

    Name: Kaiko Taisu

    Age: 17

    Starter: Azurill

    Kua: Squall

    Manifest: Wanderer (Swift Swim)

Appearance: Kaiko has purple eyes and long, straight, dark blue hair usually worn in a high ponytail. She has a medium skin tone, and a few freckles year round due to often being in the glare of the open sea. Her body type is that of a swimmer- long limbs, large feet, a muscular core and shoulders. She’s most certainly not thin, but she doesn’t have much excess fat on her body apart from the chest, which gives her a slight advantage when deep diving in cold waters. When working, she, and all the other divers, wear minimal, streamlined pieces of cloth. When not diving, she wears multi-layered long shirts or dresses, in brighter colours, with skirts never longer than the knee, and no shoes. She has good posture, and moves as if completely used to her own body, self assured, co-ordinated and balanced. There is evidence of her past failure to be this way though- she has callouses on her palms from rope burn, a scar or two along her back from snapped ropes, and various other ship, sea, and shell-related callouses and scars on her legs.

Personality: Kaiko often thinks she knows what is best for other people, and herself. Pride is something that she has in her work, in herself, in her family. It’s the thing which trips her up, but also keeps her going when times get tough. She’s determined, but not in a hard way- in a more sly way. She has been taught that it’s the outcome that matters, not the means. Even if she might have the kindest outcomes in mind, she’s the sort who easily takes up the saying “being cruel to be kind”. She can excuse her own mean behavior if she can see a positive outcome, but is more likely to forget all of that in the heat of competition. She’s fiercely individually competitive, but also a firm believer in teamwork involving a hierarchy where everyone knows their place and what to do. Following, or giving, clear orders. That sort of thing is very important on ships, and therefore, her life. Vagueness pisses her off, and strong emotional exchanges make her feel a little uneasy. Creativity isn’t her strongest point, so she tries to relate everything new back to something she already knows in order to figure out and plan things properly. Unfortunately, this means when life throws her a curveball, she can get very flustered and have to talk things out until she feels she is back in control.

History: Kaiko’s father was a coastal raid sailor, and her mother a clamperl diver. They had a brief, unofficial fling, and he was back on the ocean, sailing away in his raiding ship. So, Kaiko spent most of her childhood with her mother in a floating village that moved from mooring point to mooring point in the north of Squall. The Squall ocean may not have been a calm place, but it seemed friendlier than the craggy cliffs and caves, which held far more unfamiliar and nasty threats. The village-flotilla was not a raiding type, but a fishing one, so she learned how to contribute. She would hold her breath, training in diving, with an accompanying Azurill floating above her keeping watchful eye, while her mother dived ever deeper with her companion Finneon.

Having been given a fairy type companion in a sea of darkness often made Kaiko the subject of ridicule when raiding fleets came to visit the fishing flotilla. It seemed to spur on her need to prove herself. She wanted to compete with these sailors who thought they were better than her somehow, just because she came from the Squall equivalent of a rural town. As she became a teenager, she went on brief stints on more raiding-type ships, eventually finding a spot on her fathers boat for a season or two here and there. She learned more about sailing, but still, the other crew members didn’t respect her. She was the bottom of the food chain, the youngest, the most inexperienced. Disposable. She detested the feeling.

One summer she went back to her mothers flotilla to help with a the seasons abundant harvest, and her fathers ship did not come back.

Motivation: Kaiko has multiple motivations. The first and foremost is to become stronger and more experienced; Someone worthy of RESPECT. Someone even the snarkiest saltiest sailor would listen to, someone who can walk into those gloomy sea caves and strike fear into the hearts of the creatures, instead of the other way around. Secondarily to that, she wants to know what has become of her fathers fleet- were they captured? Lost at sea? Temporarily adrift? It is her dream to sail her own ship alongside his, either on his level, or better. Thirdly, Kaiko has a niggling feeling that she’s missing out on something. As if she has forgotten to do something with her life so far- is it make friends? Is it make enemies? Is it just to learn about the continent she expects to raid? While it terrifies her, she wonders if theres something emotional or physical out there that she’s going to need, that she can’t get on the oceans of Squall.

    Name: Rick
    Age: 24
    Starter: Ponyta ()
    Kua: Forge
    Manifest: Eruption

Appearance: Thin and standing at 1,80m tall, with short brown hair. Usually wears a dark-grey t-shirt, grey breeches, tall boots, and a pair of gloves. The belt has an extention where pokeballs can be attached to slots when in miniature size, though it can only carry up to 3 at a time. It also has a small pocket to keep essential stuff like medicine, berries, and other small tools, aswell as the remaining pokeballs in the rare ocasions where he might bring more than 3 pokémon. He also wears a Z-Ring, and unlike the majority of people, he wears it at his right wrist.
Personality: A boy of few words, who spends most of his time with his Pokémon rather than with other people, especially when it comes to strangers. Although that doesn't mean he's antisocial to the point where he avoids contact with others, he does avoid the most crowded areas. Despite his quietness, he can actually be very caring for his friends, having no problem with helping anyone in trouble or asking for his assistance, and even resort to daring acts in the more serious situations. That goes for his Pokémon aswell. He will avoid confrontation when it is not necessary to prevent injuries to his Pokémon, and is also not very adept of arena matches, but he won't back away from challenges. He usually tries to analise the situation and possible scenarios before acting, although there are some instances where he may overlook and rush.
History: Rick always had a prety standard life. When he was 14, his family decided to move from Unova to set their lives in Onmyo. They always avoided conflits of any kind, and war between Kuas was an extreme. The Forge has always been left untouched by other Kuas due to their most advanced technology, and so was chosen as their home Kua. However, it did came with a cost of high levels of polution and industrial waste. For someone who has lived mostly a rural life up to that point, this atmosphere became unpleasant, and at some point it felt hard to live in. At the age of 24, Rick decided it was about time to prepare and move on.
Motivation: He always felt compelled by the sense of exploration and the idea of finding something at the end, whether that be something valuable or just that feeling of acomplishment, and the least explored that area is, the better.

    Name: Kelseng Norbu.
    Age: 19 years old.
Starter: Kayla the Togekiss -> Imogen the Togepi. Uses a red Apricorn Ball.
Kua: Aurora Kua. For better or worse, the place that taught Kelseng to be withdrawn and self-reliant with wits sharper than a knife is her home.
Manifest: Forewarn. Kelseng’s analytical mind and keen eyes lend themselves to exploring.
Appearance: The most striking thing about Kelseng’s appearance is her white hair. Long, wavy, and well-kept, her hair flows down beneath her shoulders, though she usually keeps it tied back with a cloth so that it stays out of her deep black eyes. Her skin is a healthy, reddish tan, and her face is more cute than beautiful. She’s on the taller side for a young woman, standing at 5’10”, and her frame is fairly lean without an abundance of curves. She usually wears simple, pragmatic robes or tunics of blue or yellow. Here’s an image ref (though she doesn’t wear the glasses in Onmyo).
Personality: For the most part, Kelseng is a very quiet and reserved person. Polite, calm, efficient, and perfectionistic to the point of self-destruction, she is a decent diplomat and an excellent scholar. However, while she loves learning, she’s not content to sit among Jianli’s stuffy libraries and musty scrolls; she’s a restless spirit with her head in the clouds, possessed of a near-reckless wanderlust. Despite Kelseng’s introverted nature and tendency to hide her true emotions, she is very passionate. She has a particular fondness for the stars and for healing. Once she gets started on a subject she loves, she tends to be much more open and excitable. She doesn’t make friends easily, having difficulty opening up to others, but she enjoys helping people and healing others. Overall, she’s confident, perfectionistic, intelligent, kind, quiet, and more than a little self-destructive, with the smarts to get her out of a lot of scrapes but lacking the wisdom to know which ones she should get into.
History: Born to a Sage mother and a doctor father, Kelseng has been pushed toward greatness since birth. Unlike most children in her situation, she tended to view this as a blessing rather than a burden. She was a born student, and her parents were more than happy to provide her with knowledge. In time, she began to take after academics more than healing - though she still enjoyed lessons with her father, if only so that she could gain some basic first-aid skills.

When Kelseng was about thirteen, her mother decided that she might be suitable to become a Sage someday, and Kelseng's education adopted a much quicker pace. She wanted to travel to other Kuas to learn as much as she could about the world - and was shocked when her parents forbade her from venturing out into the wide, wild world. It was dangerous, they claimed; they had all they needed in Jianli. Why venture out into danger among foolish, ignorant, uneducated people? Kelseng remained skeptical of this, but she had little time to question, anyway, given the intensity of Sage training.

Despite the rapid pace of her education, Kelseng still occasionally helped her father with his healing, and when a clutch of Togepi were found abandoned by some dead or wounded mother Togekiss, Kelseng had an idea. She snuck an Apricorn ball into the infirmary and caught Imogen, a Togepi who had taken a special fondness for her. With a Pokemon, she managed to convince her parents that she would stand a chance out in the world - especially since, as a Sage, knowledge of Pokemon would serve Kelseng well. “Small ventures only,” her parents warned, and now Kelseng considers herself free to explore the farthest reaches of Onmyo.
Motivation: To learn more about the world in which she lives; to fill her mind with knowledge and to understand herself, other people, and Pokemon better. To become learned enough, enlightened enough, respected enough to become a Sage. And to maybe one day lift off into the stratosphere, instead of being ground-bound even so close to the sky.

Note: In terms of berries, I have 3 Sitrus, 3 Lum, 1 Kebia, 1 Babiri, 1 Petaya.

Approved! You start with a Togepi, Level 5 | HP 23/23, 3 Quick Balls, and 15/15 Sitrus, 15/15 Lum, 5/5 Kebia, 5/5 Babiri, and 5/5 Petaya Berries!!

    Name: Jaing Zhu Taisu
    Age: 14
    Starter: Oshawott
    Kua: Squall
    Manifest: Brine

Appearance: Jiang has wavy, bright red har that falls loosely at her shoulders. Her eyes are violet and give her a proud look. Her stance that is of a person who oozes confidence, but she does not, and comes off as weak by comparison. She is as tall as a Blastoise.

Jiang frequently wears a tunic, jacket, and sash, short trousers and simple sandals, or a plain, rough-spun tunic and breeches for swimming. When training or fighting, she dons a uniform resembling the competitors of the Chasm Kua's grand tournament, though she herself does not yet have this honor.

Personality: Jiang is alternatingly loud and brash, and timid and sullen. She has been isolated from her peers, and it has made her withdrawn and starved for socialization. She is self-conscious and yearns to be liked by the people around her, but she sometimes overcompensates by being pushy and combative in public. She has a short temper, but is more likely to run and hide to avoid social conflict than finish a fight that she started.

History: In the great city Honglan, they hold a great annual tournament to decide who will rule as Shi. And while many join, all fall to Hamada, the standing Shi of Chasm Kua. It's said that the Hero-King always defeats his foes in honorable combat, and his opponents always die honorable deaths. But if you listen to Master Chen, he once faced the impervious Hamada in single combat, and while he did not beat the man, through guile and wit he fled Chasm Kua, and has been in hiding ever since.
Jiang Zhu Taisu has been training under the disgraced Master since before she could stand. Her mother, a pragmatic and busy fishwife, was quite happy to leave her daugher in the care of that outsider from Chasm Kua. Jiang never knew her father, but she's been told he was a strong (and evidently prolific) raiding captain, who one day sailed into the sunset, leaving only his name for his daughter to claim as birthright.
Jiang has spent most of her life in a coastal cave carved into the cliffs of the Squall. Master Chen controlled nearly every aspect of Jiang's life: when and what she ate, what she could say, when she slept, and of course, her training in Kuai Yong Wa Wushu, a style of Mienshao fighting arts adapted for use with the water Pokemon native to Squall. That is, until a year ago, when she turned thirteen and was claimed as an adult by Squall Kua. Now she frequently is taken on raids by various crews needing an extra hand, but kept below deck while any glorious battle occurs. Instead, she is employed to dig, to carry, and to guard the ship when the crew goes aground. She still lives with Master Chen, but must now too suffer the embarrassment of being an outsider among her own kin.

Motivation: Jiang wants to travel to Chasm Kua and win their annual Tournament. If she can challenge the Kua Shi and win, not only will she become the new Shi, but she will redeem Master Chen-- literally all she's been training for her whole life. It is time to leave. Squall resents her, and her Pokemon is weak. They must train together and learn the Wushu disciplines of the other 7 Kua, if they ever hope to achieve their task.
Apart from that, Jiang longs to fit in. She's mostly given it up as a hopeless cause: she is saddened and embittered from being shunned by her Kua. Perhaps in her travels she'll learn to make friends with people and Pokemon.

    Name: Reyna ---
    Age: 14
Starter: Gliscor -> Akiza the Gligar
    Kua: Plains
    Manifest: Last Resort

    Personality:
An adventurer at heart with young and ambitious hopes, Reyna is a very spontaneous and overall peppy person. She tends to be very curious with whatever matters comes her way, and ignores the hardships that may happen as long as the payout is what she's hoping for. Being an optimist, she tends to not let what has happened in her past get to her, and will try to aid those who need it. However, this comes with her own flaws.

Still being young, she doesn't understand too well the pain some people can go through due to her actions, and the repercussions never seem to strike her until its too late for her to try and fix it. This leads to her getting upset and feeling pained as what she's done. She will cheer herself up best she can, but it is a concern that she has. She doesn't want to hurt others anymore, so she tries to be as cautious as she can when it comes to emotion, which can seem off-setting to others when she tries to help. She's more willing to lend a hand to head into a cave than to help those grieving a loved one.

    Appearance:
Reyna stands at a height of around 5'6", which she will stand by as pretty tall for her age. She has hazel eyes and a standard face befitting any girl of her age. She has short brown hair that she takes care of and cuts on her own, so little edges and the such stick out as she's not very experienced at it. Her hair comes off as messy, but she doesn't mind since its comfortable and never in her way.

Reyna tends to keep her clothing light but unique to her. She wears an old brown jacket over a plain white t-shirt with a drawing of a Maractus on it. She generally sticks to wearing a baggy pair of jeans she owns as well, covering even the top of her shoes. Finishing it all off, she wears a worn out blue baseball cap that has some of the patchwork peeling off from its age.

    History:
None know of where Reyna originated from, but she tells the story as so.

She comes from one of the Kuas she knows for certain, but she can not remember which as she had left it so long ago. Her father was abusive to her due to the passing of her mother a year after his birth, which her father blamed on the child he then took care of for a few years. After coming to an understanding that she was not wanted at the age of five, she got into a vehicle and took off from her hometown. She was unsure what it was, but regardless, she ended up at the Plains Kua.

She got found and was eventually adopted by a women who lived there. This women was kind and caring, and took care of Reyna despite not having her and the poor woman's old age. Reyna would grow up with her until the unfortunate time came when she was around twelve years old. She lay in her bed, ready to pass away that day. Before she did though, she had one last talk with Reyna, and gave her a late birthday gift. It was a Pokeball containing a Gligar. She would pass away an hour later.

Reyna did not want to let her memory go to waste, and took Gligar with her to travel the land since the house was then claimed by the bank of the town. She knew to keep her head up and follow the optimism that the woman had held, looking to the future even when she laid on her death bed. Reyna would never let her memory go. She goes town to town, preparing herself and doing chores for food until she is able to build a team so she can challenge the Shi of the eight Kuas, and hopefully with whatever she earns from them, buy back the house she had lost. Once she earned that, she could keep the memory of her adoptive mother Lissa intact for years to come.

    Motivation:
Defeat the eight Shi of the multiple Kuas so that she can eventually earn enough money or reputation to earn the house back that had been taken from her. She promised to train Gligar to her best ability, and with her head held high, she would carry out the memory of Lissa who loved her so, and prove to the world what she can do.
