THE FIRE SERMON || POST 3
    WORD COUNT: 301

The cabin shivered against the cold, but it breathed a visible sigh of relief when the door slammed shut for the final time and the last occupant entered. A trinity within to match the trinity without. Nature had a way of perfecting that kind of symmetry.

Three travelers huddled inside, some determined, some wanderers; some strangers, some friends. There would be time for hasty greetings and confused introductions, but the circumstances were undeniably odd: between the supernatural storm and the mysterious advice to stay away, there was a constant pull further inward. Like a basketball swirling around the rim of the basket, the tug of gravity, of inward, was inexorable.

Here was safe. There was no watchful guardian with a heart of ice to force the walls down, or any of the other monstrosities that surely were ahead. The walls were trembling against the tempest, but they were holding for now, this brief moment in time, where they would have time to recoup. But adventure was calling to them, speaking to the spark in their hearts that had fueled them this far off the beaten path in the first place. After all, they had not taken themselves here to shelter in the dark.

Outside, a fourth stumbled through the cold, the fire within doing enough to protect him from the storm. But, like the cabin, he could not withstand forever. Alone, in the blinding snow, he must have missed the protective outline of the cabin against the stark white landscape; now, with the flurries in impossibly fast spirals, it would be even less likely that he would see it--unaided.

Deep beneath the floorboards, in response to the shivering walls, a rumbling howling emanated from the earth. Suspicious bumps in the shaggy carpet became apparent as well--perhaps there was something lurking below.

Finn had only a few moments in the cabin, enough to begin packing some ratios in his pouch, before the door to the cabin opened and a flurry of wind and snow screamed from the opening. He thought the storm had blown open the door itself, until he turned to see a familiar face shut the door and look up at him.

"Finn?" Kit asked. It had been sometime before when he and Kit, a Vulpix PokéSoul, met in an abandoned city, escaping a pack of feral Mightyena. "Kit," Finn responded, acknowledging the past friend. He wondered how she got here, what she was doing in this part of the world, and more pressingly, if she had heard the voice in the storm as well. But before he could ask another question, the door flung open a second time.

This time too by a traveler, but someone Finn had never encountered before. A slit second told Finn to reach for his arrows, but the circumstances of the storm and the silhouette of a young woman deterred his fight or flight reaction and instead to one of hospitality. The girl had sighed and closed the door; Finn was studying her as well, questions swarming: Is she a PokéSoul? Is she the cause of this storm? Is she a lowly traveler lost in the blizzard? Is she irritated that there are people in the cabin? Is this her cabin? Finn was about to tackle the long conversation they were about to ensue, but a noise came eerily from the floorboards. It sounded less like the fierce, cold wind, and more of some unknown beast or malevolent creatures.

Finn pulled over the deer skull on his head and reached for his arrows in a calm manor as the ominous growl continued. "Look," he said sharply as he gazed at the carpet. Little round bumps began forming from the ground, as if the floor was beginning to boil ad the carpet was only a thin layer about to burst.

    (( WOO LET'S FUCKIN GO ))

    KAYUQTUQ "KIT" AALUK

He acknowledges her, his voice speaking her name bringing her out of her momentary shock at the turn of fate. Ears slowly press forward as she removes herself from her momentarily stunned pause, but they pin again as another bursts into their shelter. Kit snarls and jumps away from the girl as she enters, baring jagged fangs at her as she pulls her knife at ready in front of her own torso. Tails lash anxiously as they spill from beneath her parka. She seems human enough, except perhaps her odd eyes, but Kit does not immediately trust her nonetheless.

People make her nervous, and Kit half expects another to burst into the door. However, if she thought she was anxious before, nothing matches the anxiety that surges when Finn points out a set of abnormalities beginning to bubble on the floor. Hair raises on the back of her neck. Chills race up her arm. In that moment, she's filled with such a strong, powerful explosion of nope that it takes everything to not break out of the door of the cabin without a single word.

Restraint gives her pause long enough to say something. "Must go," she growls, voice guttural from relative disuse. "Go to the towers. Can't stay." She nearly leaves then, but remembers the way Finn had saved her. She spares the other girl a distrustful glare, one that softens when she gazes toward her more familiar acquaintance. Suddenly, Kit drops her rucksack to the floor, tugging out a sinew rope she'd been saving as a spare string for the next time she tried to make a bow. However, this would prove more urgent. Fingers work rapidly to tie the rope about her waist. She tosses the other end to Finn.

"You're coming with," she orders tersely. Whatever the fuck that was bubbling the floor, she wouldn't let him find out--between her knife and her tone, it's apparent he has no choice in the matter. Kit flings open the door. She'd flush them out if she needed to. Eyes flash to the other stranger. "Can come," she growls warily, "but watch step. Stay close." If this chick tried any funny business, she'd have a pretty angry nine year old with a knife on her hands. Such was the price one paid for surviving a freak blizzard in the middle of nowhere.

“Damn, it’s really f***ing cold,” a surly Dodger Ignis grumbled to himself as he trudged through the newly whipped up snow flurries, all sense of indignation at the mysterious voice and anticipation of an ensuing adventure lost to the cold, or used up like kindling to keep Dodger’s flame alive, as he channeled all his energy into keeping himself warm. This would have normally been an easy feat, and Dodger bitterly recalled that in his prime, he could walk through a blizzard with an aura of heat and come out unscathed by the harshness of the cold. However, in his current state Dodger was just as much at the whims and fancies of the storm, and he knew that if he was to make it to the mountain something would have to change, and fast. For some inexplicable reason Dodger felt that though he didn’t have shelter, he was better off than the Pokemon hiding in the forest behind him, or any unlucky human seeking refuge in any man-made structure. At least he had his solitude and anger to keep him warm.

Eventually, Dodger found what he was looking for: an almost “eddy” in the snow, caused by the inability of the flurries to fully occupy the hollow space at the base of a tree; the tree had been slightly uprooted, and so formed a nice hollow. Dodger quickly set to work, pushing up snow against the entrance to form a barrier at the open end of the hollow. Once that was finished, he let of a small aura of heat in the center, which cleared the snow inside, and it was here that Dodger sat, eagerly awaiting the end of the gale, and the resumption of his journey.

As Taliyah walked into the cabin, she got glares from the two who had been in there previous to her. She could tell they knew each other, but that did not mean they were exactly willing to make friends at this moment. Before she could say anything, the floor started to rumble beneath them.

"We need to get the hell out of here."

Taliyah rolled her eyes at the obvious comment, before preparing to leave. However, she stopped momentarily as she saw the girl wind a rope around the man who had been in the building with them. She decided to pull him herself, but she also flashed a knife towards him and Taliyah. With an aggressive tone, she commanded him and pulled him. She said to Taliyah that she was welcome to come, but to stay close and watch her step.

Noticing the aggressive bubbling from the floor, and the fact that they were in an area that was quickly being covered in white, she decided to leave the warmth of the cabin and follow the duo on their way out.

"Azelf, does anything seem off to you about these two?" Taliyah asked her friend under her breath.

"If you wanted me to make you feel better, I'd say they both seem a lot less in control of themselves. But if you want me to be honest, it looks like you have competition with someone who's probably a better survivor than you."
    Azelf said before laughing.

"Oh screw off." She said before continuing their path to these towers that the girl had wanted them to go to. Its better to be doing something than freezing to death.

as a word of warning, after this post I will start enforcing the 2-week thing a lot more heavily. pls fam let's do this

THE FIRE SERMON || POST 4 (FOR ALL PLAYERS)

There was no time for warm welcomes and cheerful exchanges. The travellers seemed to sense this, hurriedly exchanging greetings, privy to the discomfort inside of what appeared to be safe walls. They left almost immediately, thrown back into the blinding snowstorm, finding it better to brave the elements than the unknown.

And they were none too soon -- no one would ever know what they missed by not exploring the carpet, but ahead of them, the snow cleared itself for just a moment, and a path to the towers they seek revealed itself through the endless white, spires visible against the darkened sky, perhaps half a mile away. Surrounded by craggy cliffs that jab upward, the towers of the facility seem ensconced on all sides by thick crags of stone, offering it some protection from the blizzard. A narrow pathway snaked to the front gates, seemingly unguarded. These details were all that were visible at this distance, and they were quickly swallowed back as the snowstorm erupted once more.

With the cabin behind them and the spires ahead, it seemed like the path was calling them ever onward.

    ---

The ice in front of Dodger Ignis shifted as he huddled in his makeshift shelter, content to brave the storm until it passed. At first, it seemed like the snow was moving normally, tossed in the winds, but it formed a humanoid shape, arms and legs sprouting out from the whirling mass of snowflakes until it took the form of a small child.

Dodger Ignis, the wind whispered to him, moving the child's lips as it did so. The apparition's head tilted to once side, seemingly studying him, and then held one hand out for him. You are strong enough. Rest here no longer. There is work for you to be done. Follow me?

    KAYUQTUQ "KIT" AALUK

She trudges around the cabin and up toward what she assumed was their destination. The snow devours her vision, makes it impossible to see. If it wasn't for the way she can feel the earth sloping up as she walks, she wouldn't be sure at all which direction she's going in. But then, the path above them clears just enough to offer them a glimpse.

Kit stops in her tracks to stare upward as the snow sweeps out of their way, offering a peek. The girl can nearly feel her heart chill in the confines of her chest as she gazes at the rocky spires and the small, snaking path that creeps between them. Ears tuck back against her hair and lips curl back from her fangs. Her tails lash fiercely beneath her parka. Then, no sooner than the storm blew back in to block them, she began to slough upward.

There's a tugging on the rope behind her but she doesn't bother to check who or what it is. The snow whips it around enough--if she bothered to look over her shoulder every time, she'd do more looking than walking. She's not sure who has chosen to follow her but at this point, she doesn't care. Kit is only aware of the righteousness that thrums in her chest, fueled by Aput's own flame. Something was wrong here, very wrong, and they'd put a stop to it if it was the last thing they did. It's childish, perhaps, to thinking that they could make some sort of difference, but Kit has been at the whim of the world for so long now that she's searching here for some semblance of control.

Finn had tied the string around him and tossed the remaining near the feet of the stranger as he and Kit left. "Come with," he added, throwing the Bibarel pelt over his shoulders to cover himself from the snow. He trudged through in the footprints of an old companion, leaving his own for the new one. The few leaves and buds growing on his antlers quickly died and fell as they turned to their wintery skeletal appearance. Finn left the deer skull on, weary of creatures out in the wild and insulating the bit of heat his head would give off.

As the group walked toward a clearing, Finn could make out some towers and a crag up ahead. Shelter was always a conflicted boon; the towers could provide warmth and solitude from the storm, albeit it clearing, or it could host unwelcoming beings, thirsty for the stranded and lost ventures like themselves. Finn was able to calm himself, however, by reminding him that there is strength in numbers and he is not alone.

Therefor, Finn continued, even if he was not as quick in step as Kit, he continued the path behind her, trusting his and her senses to keep them stray from threats. The spires loomed overhead, seemingly calling out to them. Finn found it intriguing, and a bit unnerving, but couldn't help his curious side to find out why these towers were so appealing to him. There could be a force inside, using some kind of energy bending to persuade onlookers to coming near. Maybe that being or creature was malevolent, like the sweet scent of a venus fly trap. Or, quite possibly, it was some being under distress, giving out a call for aide. But if it's under distress, who's oppressing it? Would it be just as oppressive toward them? Maybe it is the oppressor giving out a call for future victims?

Questions whirlpooled in Finn's head as the group now began stepping on hard ground instead of snow; the weather began to turn better, and even though it seemed like a good omen, Finn was still unconvinced.

Dodger Ignis was hallucinating, and most likely insane. This was simply fact. Not only did he let himself get carried into a snowstorm by a random voice, but now the wind was a child and talking to him. Bloody brilliant, he thought. I'm going to die out here and I'll be bonkers while I'm at it. Suddenly, though, he felt the chill coming from the child; it washed over him, almost knocking him back, and, for a moment, clearing the aura of warmth Dodger had always known to wrap around him.

This was no illusion, and Dodger sat back up, reluctantly attentive to the soft, wispy words of the wind. Work to be done? Dodger probably hated the words “work” and “water” equally, and one was actually fatal for him. Also, follow them? It took most of what he had getting through the storm in the first place, and now he had to abandon shelter? Classic Dodger luck. Still, Dodger didn’t much like his chances defying the literal embodiment of wind requesting his help right in front of him, especially thinking of all the things that could happen to the shelter by the child which would drag him out anyways. He figured going along willingly might be a preferable option.

And so Dodger Ignis, embodiment of fire and volcanoes, bowed to a child.

He reluctantly dragged himself to his feet, brushed off the annoying snowflakes and said, “ Alright, I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to rest here anyways. What’s the plan?”

Taliyah followed behind what seemed to be the dynamic duo of this group she was now tagging along with. It was a great thing that they had natural survival skills, so she just followed them as they trekked down to spires that lay in the distance. Despite the cold wind that blew and stung their faces, they all carried onto that place in the hopes of finding somewhere warm to stay until she could only guess they'd get more acquainted. As she approached it, Azelf made a whistling noise to get her attention"

"Whats the matter, Azelf?" She said in her thoughts, making sure to keep her eyes forward so she didn't lose track of where she was walking.

"I'm getting an intense feeling of power, something that we should not be encountering. I know that you have companions now, but you should move on with as much caution as possible. I'm not going to be saying its time to pull out the big guns yet, but be aware that you may have to start letting out fire if things turn for the worst. I believe whatever this thing is would be what I felt earlier. I'll see if it'll respond to me, but I highly doubt it, if there even is something there." Azelf said, before quickly relaying out a message to any Pokemon in the vicinity asking if they are able to give them their name if they can understand what they were saying.

Taliyah started to feel anxious about the situation. What could be so mysterious and powerful that it warrants fear in everyone?
